We have a special Discovery Series planned this month- on March 20. Our guest speaker, Jeff Sherard, will highlight two significant Indigenous sites in Dorchester County: Andrew Percival’s Weston Plantation and the Laurel Hill Plantation. Participants will learn about artifacts related to the Carolina Colony's initial founding and how they help to describe the Indigenous experience during the colonization and its connections to the Inland Lowcountry. We will also talk about the structure of the developing plantation systems and how native groups were involved. The event is free, but registration is required: https://lnkd.in/gznpfXKi

We are thrilled to invite you to a special free day at our museum on Wednesday, March 12. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore and learn from our diverse range of exhibits at no cost. Here's everything you need to know..... On this day, we will feature two special visiting exhibits: 1. Native American Exhibit, "Resistance and Revolution." This exhibit explores the struggles experienced by Indigenous peoples in South Carolina to retain their independence through the upheavals, unrest, and uncertainty following the establishment of the Carolina colony by the British. It provides a deep and insightful look into the resilience and history of Native American communities in the 19th century. 2. "Votes for Women" Exhibit: In celebration of Women's History Month, this exhibit seeks to expand visitors' understanding of the suffrage movement in the United States. It highlights the courageous efforts and significant achievements of women who fought for the right to vote and their enduring impact on society. In addition to these special exhibits, visitors can also enjoy our regular lineup of exhibits, which focus on the rich history and culture of the inland low country. Please note that free days are self-guided tours, and we will not have docents available. If your group consists of more than 8 people, we kindly ask that you call ahead to reserve a time to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit for everyone. We believe this event will be an enriching educational experience for your students, offering them a chance to engage with important historical topics in an interactive and meaningful way. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to welcoming you and your students to our museum on March 12, 2025.
