I'm ecstatic that Doors Unhinged was selected as a Phase 2 winner in the Re:X Before Recycling Prize from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)/Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations | U.S. Department of Energy and American-Made Program!!! We're excited to use the prize money to accelerate rollout of our #refurbished and #remanufactured door products and expand into the east coast markets. There's SO much work to do in this space but we're slowly cracking this nut, and I hope we can encourage other entrepreneurs to follow suit. I am thrilled to announce that Doors Unhinged is hiring a new Director of Plant Operations! Doors Unhinged has spent 2024 quietly planning how we are going to level up, and become able to recover, process and resell many more high-quality doors. Our first big step is to develop and launch our refurbished door product and process, which will take a group of dissimilar doors and send them out looking the same. So, we’re on the hunt for an energetic, highly-committed operations lead that can take the refurbishing concept and make it a reality. Maybe that's you!! If not, maybe your neighbor or cousin! Friends and supporters, I am totally GEEKED about the new material reuse guidance document that was just released this week!!! The Project Manager’s Guide to Material Reuse in Commercial Buildings is the first of its kind to be customized to the nuances and challenges of the commercial building environment. It’s the culmination of months of research, collaboration and synthesis, led by Olivia Cashman (Hennepin County Environment) and Simona Fischer (MSR Design) and supported by @Liz Kutschke (University of Minnesota College of Design CSBR) and myself (Doors Unhinged). The whole point of this was to create formal structures and processes that legitimize reuse and deconstruction, so that it can be more easily implemented and become more mainstream. What I believe to be new and innovative is the reuse and deconstruction spec suite that includes Division 01 Material Reuse, Division 02 Selective Deconstruction, and the Reuse & Deconstruction Action Plan, though there is importance guidance throughout the document. If you are in the industry, I HIGHLY recommend you take a look and see how your organization can put these ideas and resources to work. The 2030 climate event horizon is nearing! We are greatly appreciative of the vote of confidence and ?? that comes with this prize. This is an exciting step for us as we deepen our investment in #circulareconomy from just reclamation into #refurbishing and #remanufacturing.
