The Door's Adolescent Health Center is hiring Peer Educators! Our Peer Education program empowers young people to advocate for positive lifestyle choices among their peers. Earlier in the week, The Door and Broome Street Academy Charter High School's CEO, Kelsey Louie, participated in the Building Resilience Symposium hosted by Partnership for After School Education (PASE) at Trinity Church NYC. They joined community partners Barbara DiGangi, Director of Community Wellness Initiatives, University Settlement Society of New York, and Eva Wong, Executive Director, NYC Mayor's Office of Community Mental Health. Community-based organizations came together in Lower Manhattan to focus on the pivotal role of after-school programs in fostering positive mental health among youth. At The Door, we remain vigilant about ensuring that every young person has access to the mental health care they need, regardless of their background or economic status. We're excited to participate in this conversation and look forward to future partnerships that will create vital mental health support for NYC youth. We’re so thrilled that September marks the official launch of our partnership with NYU Silver School of Social Work on a new Hybrid Master of Social Work (MSW) program, which will enable The Door staff members to obtain MSW degrees at a significantly reduced cost at NYU Silver’s new Hybrid Master of Social Work program, while remaining fully engaged in their work at the Door. The partnership will increase The Door staff members’ capacity to serve the mental health needs of young people from New York City’s underserved communities. This innovative pathway is designed for professionals with prior experience providing direct social services and will combine virtual and in-person classes with a hands-on practicum education within The Door. The inaugural Fall 2024 cohort is comprised of 14 staff from The Door, who began their studies last week and will be eligible to obtain their MSW degrees as early as summer 2026. Due to generous philanthropic support?from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation and Trinity Church NYC, The Door cohort members will only have to pay $10,000 out of pocket for tuition. “NYU Silver is launching a new, part-time Hybrid MSW pathway because we are committed to making a graduate education more accessible to working social services professionals,” said the school’s Dean Michael A. Lindsey. “We must open up paths to advancement that can lead to upward mobility and create more social workers at a time when they are needed more than ever. That is why we are excited to have The Door participate in our inaugural Hybrid MSW cohort.” “Groundbreaking partnerships like this one are critical to building a sustainable social services sector, by shoring up its infrastructure and expanding its capacity,” said The Door’s CEO Kelsey Louie, MSW (NYU, ’01). “The program’s structure and flexibility ensure that no staff member is forced to choose between a paycheck and their educational and career aspirations.
