Last week we hosted a timely webinar to help nonprofits prepare for #GivingTuesday ?? and the year-end giving season. GivingTuesday (12/3/24) is a global movement that encourages generosity. In 2023, $3.1 billion was donated in the U.S. with 34 million adults participating. Nonprofits that participated raised 5.6x more than those that did not. 2. Appreciated stock represent billions in untapped funding with more than 100 million Americans owning securities (all major givers and most mid-level donors). With an average gift of $5,600, and 25% of stock donors making recurring gifts, stock gifting has tremendous potential to diversify and grow funding. 3. With a shorter giving season this year (5 fewer days vs. 2023), success requires a plan: - Optimize your website to promote Ways to Give - Create a GivingTuesday page and Call to Action - Create a section to educate donors on stock gifting - Implement an Easy Button to execute stock gifts - Engage donors across multiple media: mail, email, SMS, social, etc - Use the GivingTuesday momentum to convey a sense of urgency - Ask donors to make a pledge to donate on GivingTuesday 4. Communication frequency is essential to success. See the presentation for a prescriptive timeline: - October: develop GivingTuesday plan and optimize your site for stock gifting - Early November: launch GivingTuesday page and announce to donors - Throughout November: invite donors to participate and make a pledge - Early December: send and post final GivingTuesday reminders 5. Peak days for stock gifting coincide with year-end tax planning. - Volume will build gradually through 12/22 and spike again 12/27-31 - Remind donors throughout December - Invite them to share their gains with you 6.
