Eight bars in, and Tyler Garbrick gets his groove. “Blues by Five,” is the tune. Like its title suggests, “Blues by Five” is a hard-bopping, almost out-of-kilter work of that genre by Miles Davis, the taciturn trumpeter from East St. Louis who first became known in the late 1940s for his early “Birth of the Cool” musings. Davis took the uniquely American art form of jazz, and aurally yanked it inside out. https://lnkd.in/e_dsmFqi

Evidence shows it’s been happening here. During a recent presentation of the city’s proposed $45.4 million fiscal year 2025-26 budget, Morgantown Finance Director Jon Ferguson said the city’s revenues are expected to stay relatively flat, with a notable exception.

A lawsuit filed Jan.30 in Monongalia County Circuit Court claims the city of Morgantown failed to take “meaningful corrective action” to stop sexual harassment in its engineering and public works department despite known issues. The suit was filed by Engineering Technician Sarahlin Duley and names the city, former employee Daniel Fluharty, current Acting City Manager Damien Davis (in his normal role as director of engineering and public works) and public works supervisor David Shrout as defendants. https://lnkd.in/eHbMfpDv

Jedd Gyorko, who graduated from UHS in 2007, was a journeyman big leaguer who was a starter and solid contributor for the Padres of San Diego, the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers. The baseball and softball fields will be named for the athletic contributions of the Gyorko and Stockett families on both sides of Jedd’s tree. https://lnkd.in/epVCXJXn
