"Many men are using forceful tactics to try to sabotage their partners’ employment. They resort to such tactics as hiding her car keys, letting down the car tyres, damaging her work clothes, even getting into her phone’s calendar to change her appointments, trying to make her appear unreliable as an employee." Another great piece of work from Anne Summers, quantifying the economic impact of domestic violence on Australian women.

This powerful film is coming to Sydney on Monday 17 March. Find out more and book your spot via the links in post.
The youngest victims of family and domestic violence all too often continue to suffer in silence. These children and young people aren't just witnesses – they are victim-survivors in their own right, yet our systems consistently overlook their unique needs and experiences. The Australian Premiere of 'Unanswered Calls' last week – an impact film presented by Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre, in association with Minderoo Foundation and produced by @venn – marked a crucial milestone in shining a light on how we must better support young people experiencing domestic and family violence. This isn't just about improving services; it's about acknowledging a fundamental truth: children experiencing family violence need specialised support that recognises their distinct experiences, speaks their language, and addresses their specific needs and risks. Until we bridge this critical gap, we continue to fail the most vulnerable members of our society. My gratitude goes to the brave young people who shared their stories in 'Unanswered Calls'. Their courage will help drive the change we desperately need. I was fortunate to work with Dr Chelsea Tobin, CF, GAICD, Jonathon Dutton, Malinda Wink, @Amanda Clarke and the Winston Churchill Trust (Australia) to bring this project to life. Special thanks to the Safe Steps team, the The Perfect Events Group and to those that contributed to the film: Dr Chelsea Tobin, CF, GAICD Kate Fitz-Gibbon, Rosie Batty AO, Janise Mitchell, Paul McDonald, Jenny McNaughton, Shorna Moore, Rivka Martin, Micaela Cronin and Liana Buchanan, whose insights were invaluable. To my colleagues in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth – stay tuned as we bring 'Unanswered Calls' to you soon: https://lnkd.in/g9hc8dis #endFV #DomesticViolence #SocialChange #FamilyViolence #YouthAdvocacy #FearIsNotLove #UnansweredCalls #socialimpact

Bridging the gap in service access for women and children from migrant and refugee backgrounds doesn’t need to be complicated – it can be as simple as starting with a pilot program that fills the gaps that leave victim-survivors navigating violence and abuse on their own. The NSW Government must ensure a 50% baseline funding increase for all specialist domestic and family violence services, so that frontline services can meet demand. This is more than a funding gap – it’s lives at risk. Read and share our pre-budget submission: https://lnkd.in/gisWhB-f

The growing need for specialist domestic and family violence services has significantly widened the gap between supply and demand. We need an immediate 50% increase in baseline funding ($163m this year) for specialist domestic and family violence services, who are buckling under the pressure, to be resourced to meet the demand for services. Delia Donovan and Livia Stanton from our team joined the incredible Asylum Seekers Centre team in Newtown yesterday. We look forward to working more closely together in our policy, advocacy and sector development work. The Asylum Seekers Centre has been doing critical work in the community since 1993. The Asylum Seekers Centre (ASC) was the first organisation in Australia to open its doors specifically to welcome and support people seeking asylum. They provide practical and personal support for people seeking safety in Greater Sydney, and advocate for fair and humane policies at every level. Bring on the collaborations to make a difference. On the anniversary of the national apology to First Nations peoples and the Stolen Generations, Domestic Violence NSW formally acknowledges the profound and enduring pain caused by the policies of forced removal and systemic discrimination within Aboriginal families and communities across Australia. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to supporting First Nations colleagues, including those who have experienced trauma, as well as victim-survivors and their communities. During #OchreRibbonWeek, we highlight the significant and ongoing impact of sexual, domestic, and family violence on Aboriginal women and children, who are disproportionately affected by these issues. We must collectively address these critical matters through advocacy, education, and support to foster healing and promote justice for all affected individuals and communities.

This week we continued our pre-budget advocacy meeting with Members of the NSW Parliament in the lead up to the NSW Budget. Advocating for four key areas that will provide immediate help to end the violence, as well as the investments required for long-term change: 1. Meeting the demand on existing services 2. Ensuring equitable access for all 3. Expanding services for statewide coverage 4. Building the sector that we need. This week, we have held meetings with Shadow Police and Counter Terrorism Minister, Paul Toole, and Independent Ministers Alex Greenwich MP and Roy Butler. We appreciate their support for the domestic and family violence sector and look forward to continuing our work with them.?It was also great to hear about the unanimous support for our pre-budget submission across the crossbench.
