    Heritage brands require special care ?? and attention. Here’s the most valuable thing I found when working with heritage brands ?? ?? Uncover existing core stories during discovery as a process of revelation? ?? Don't try to add your new stamp Unearth and polish gems that already exist, and so they have true authenticity. As we know, authenticity is crucial for brand love. ?? Core story = authenticity ?? It’s urgent to understand the value of brand equity attached to a heritage brand. It can be a juggernaut. We all wish for massive unaided brand awareness. Often executives have an affinity for a departure from their long history, intended to be new, to feel innovative. Sure, it's crucial to balance the OG pioneers' visions with a fresh take for new audiences and the times. So when does one officially become designated a heritage brand? To be designated is not just about longevity and value. Being a successful heritage brand means that we are going to leverage narrative about the history for marketing purposes. That history is an awesome key differentiator that nobody else can claim. When an organization has a historian that can geek out with us on details, I know it’s on! It’s brilliant to have a private tour guide through historic moments. Here are five heritage brands we've worked with in recent years. It’s always with a sense of privilege and honor to get to work with brands that have so much history. They are literally cornerstones for generations of families and communities.?

    Floating ink — suminagashi. The timing of the rings and the slow expansion of the center dot is subtle, elegant. It matches the actual movement of ink in water.

    There’s a Japanese art method called suminagashi, ink in water. It’s a style of marbling, like mercury collecting in liquid dynamics. We used suminagashi as a motion study for this brand’s logo animation. How will you animate your logo? Is it obvious, based on your logo’s icon or your brand name? It’s a good question. In the next year or two, it will become easier and standard to create animations through gen-AI. You will want to own and direct the style to help heighten brand value. The style of movement is as important as any of your identity elements. It will help mark you as fresh for the new digital era. In this case, the client’s roots and genesis surrounded blood research so this suminagashi style was a perfect match.

THE QUEST Enlist audiences to your mission. Show a sense of urgency to overcome obstacles. Compel your audiences by understanding the sense of hope your mission? provides. ?? REBIRTH Awaken your audience from their wintry state. Share this transformative moment with customers and show the stark contrast of an improved life after your magic kiss. ?? VOYAGE & RETURN Understand how one finds themselves in the other-world experience. Help audiences value the nature and the effects of the magic elixir. Share your definition of the new normal.? Archetypes are ancient, numerous, accepted by literary scholars and Jungian analysts. Of course, they will only take you so far. It’s just a tool to examine the experience. We use these archetypes and many others to help uncover stories that inform and improve brand campaigns. Now the trick is simply knowing which plot or combo of archetypes best fits your brand. P.S. A little creative production disclaimer: I did not work on these six films nor do I own any rights. But they do work great to illustrate the plot lines.
