We would like to take one more opportunity to congratulate Featured Volunteer Bill Crump! Bill has worked hard, and now he’s playing hard, and we say good for him! This career pilot first flew for the United States Navy and then for United Airlines before a health issue revealed itself and he had to retire. Now in his next chapter of life, this young retiree happily keeps a busy schedule volunteering for two very different nonprofits in Nashville, TN; Operation Stand Down Tennessee and Friends of Shelby Park and Bottoms. Bill lives his life of giving through volunteerism and firmly believes that “Living is giving”. He has served others for decades without looking for anything in return, yet his experiences have provided him with joy, fun, and new relationships. Make sure you give Bill’s podcast a listen to hear stories of recovery, resilience, and joy of children, camaraderie with veterans, and befriending his local park. You can find it at the link below: https://lnkd.in/gRzK8HGi #livingisgiving #giveback #volunteer #doinggoodtv

Our second Featured Volunteer for the month of October, Pastor Luis Sura, deeply understands the meaning of the word "volunteer". He first heard the word from his mother when he was a child, and in the beginning only believed it meant to help people. Now that his experience has grown, it has truly come to mean so much more to him. Pastor Luis has been in Nashville for almost four decades, and after moving here founded the nonprofit organization Better Option Tennessee, which he runs as its President while still working part-time as an Assistant Pastor! Wow...you are busy Pastor Luis! Since he came to Tennessee he has also helped start three churches AND has worked as a Board Member for several other organizations and nonprofits! Whoa! He truly DOES know the meaning of the word VOLUNTEER! Congrats Pastor Luis Sura on being our second Featured Volunteer for October! #volunteer #giveback #doinggoodtv #community

Congratulations to Julie Ridenour, our first Featured Volunteer for the month of October! Julie has volunteered for Rutherford County Area Habitat for Humanity and First United Methodist Church Murfreesboro and has helped build homes, transport people in golf carts, taught, and more. This mom of four has seen and done it all, and yet this adventure seeking paddle boarder was ready for something new! While visiting one of her children in Colorado Julie happened upon Freedom Service Dogs. She toured the office, met the staff, and fell in love with the idea so added Puppy Raiser to her already long list of volunteer projects! How cool is that? We can't wait to share more about Julie with you during the month of October! #freedomservicedogs #giveback #volunteer #doinggoodtv

Jack Valentino, our first Featured Volunteer for the month of September, is a Belmont student giving back through music by volunteering with Love Learning Music, a nonprofit organization that provides music education and therapy to children in need. As a junior at Belmont University Jack decided to spend the first part of his summer studying abroad in Austria, which inevitably meant that he had to sacrifice any prospects of a summer internship. So after coming back to Nashville, Jack needed something to do for the rest of the summer, and as an amazing piano and guitar player, he turned to teaching and found Love Learning Music! Jack first began teaching lessons in high school while honing his own skills, and has been teaching piano lessons to a ten-year-old Ukrainian refugee, Timur, while serving with Love Learning Music. Jack shared that "It's really cool to see his reaction to things I would show him…that I would guess he’d be interested in. His face would light up, and he’d be like, ‘Teach me that!’” At his young age, there is so much room for Jack to continue to bring joy through his passion for music. Whether it is through his volunteering, his new band Trek, teaching, or the massive music community at Belmont and in Nashville, Jack is bound to make an impact and we can't wait to watch it happen! #giveback #InspireThroughMusic #musicmakeschange #doinggoodtv

Our second Featured Volunteer for the month of August, Jill Pratt, is helping families find joy in the reality of disability. So admirable Jill! When Jill’s daughter Jiselle was a baby and stopped meeting developmental milestones, the family went to visit several doctors unsure of what was happening. Finally, when Jiselle was around four years old, she was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome, a gene mutation in the x chromosome that affects development primarily in girls. Jill knew she didn't want this disability to hinder the joy in her family’s life, and they also felt very fortunate to have many resources available to help their daughter (who is now in excellent health by the way-yay!), but not all families with disabled children do. So as a way to help the families that don't have the resources, Jill and her husband founded the Jiselle Lauren Foundation, a nonprofit whose mission is to help children with disabilities experience joy by providing financial assistance to their families. “We cover things that insurance doesn’t necessarily cover,” Jill shares—extra therapy, medical bills, or even styles of therapy that are not available from an insurance perspective. They even cover equine therapy which we think is awesome! You can hear more about Jill's story by listening to her episode of the Doing Good podcast here: https://lnkd.in/gRzK8HGi #giveback #findjoy #helpingothers #doinggoodtv
