Our 2025 Open Grant Opportunities were announced this morning!
Through our first five years as a foundation, Dogwood Health Trust has been fortunate to support and collaborate with an incredible network of leaders and organizations throughout Western North Carolina. Reflections from our partners last year — both before and after Hurricane Helene — underscore a compelling need for more flexible grant funding. That’s why we’re excited to announce our 2025 Grant Opportunities that respond to such vital feedback. ? With our sights set on building a stronger Western North Carolina, our next five years of grantmaking will focus on strengthening organizations, building capacity, and supporting innovation and collaboration. Our work begins today with an opportunity to apply for multi-year, general operating support for strategically aligned organizations, while additional grant opportunities coming soon for capacity building as well as collaboration and innovation. ? It will take each and every one of us to move this work forward and as a funder, we are deeply committed to work alongside our partners to create a stronger and more resilient WNC. Yesterday, Dogwood Health Trust?announced a $40 million inaugural investment to Center For Community Self-Help?to launch the WNC Affordable Housing Loan Fund. Finding solutions for affordable and safe housing in Western North Carolina has been a significant priority for Dogwood Health Trust since our inception because it is essential for people’s health and wellbeing. ? Dogwood has invested more than $83M in regional housing-related efforts since 2019, but tackling this challenge requires long-term commitment, innovation and collaboration with strategic partners. ? Loans from this newly created Self-Help fund will be made to nonprofit and for-profit housing developers across WNC with affordable housing projects focused on serving households earning 80% or less of area median income. ? This investment is expected to leverage an estimated $150 million from other sources and create or preserve a projected 1,000 units of affordable housing in our region. Self-Help has a proven model for this work with similar efforts underway in North Carolina, including active loan funds in Durham, Greensboro and Wake County. ? This is just the beginning. With collaborative and strategic partners, we can leverage our resources even further to benefit WNC for generations to come — because everyone deserves a stable home. ?
