During the 2024 International Conference of Doble Clients in Boston this past March, Alan Ross, the Managing Editor APC Media, interviewed me and a few of my colleagues from Doble Engineering, namely, Matthew Kennedy, Robert Brusetti, and Nicholas Chiccarelli, about the conference and the state of the power industry. ? The Doble F6880 Digital Network Analyzer (DNA) reveals details that are essential to helping protection engineers and relay test technicians quickly resolve issues in IEC 61850 network traffic. This compact and lightweight instrument is paired with powerful software that analyzes IED communications and provides diagnostic and analytical functionality in real time. The DNA is a digital substation multimeter, capable of plotting IEC 61850 sampled values (SV) and GOOSE messages via real-time oscillography, phasor, and tabular data views. It is also a system event recorder, capturing events via customizable triggers and producing analysis reports that allow the user to evaluate network performance and power system anomalies, like voltage sag, harmonic distortion, and underfrequency. The F6880 compares SV and GOOSE information from SCL files with the present network traffic to identify system misconfiguration issues such as missing, duplicated, or unknown messages. The DNA can even be left connected in the substation for extended periods, offering remote access and control. ?? This is the last installment of Doble Engineering's "Meet the Expert" series, with focus on Brian Snyder. Brian began his career in international business working in eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. He spent seven years working in the life-cycles service department of Siemens Energy, a global transmission and distribution equipment manufacturer. In 2010, he joined Doble as Solutions Manager, Consulting & Diagnostic Testing Services. In 2018, he was promoted to Solutions Director, Professional Services. And since 2022, has been Solutions Director, Substation Asset Performance Management. Brian is a subject matter expert in Asset Performance Management; Asset Health, Risk & Life-Cycle Management; and High-Voltage Electric Asset Life-cycle Services. As the Solutions Director for Substation Asset Performance Management, Brian is responsible for Doble's substation digital enterprise solutions designed to predict asset health & performance and make targeted maintenance & asset replacement decisions. He has an MBA in Marketing, from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. His varied interests include cycling, sailing & boating, travelling, refugee resettlement community support, and YMCA Annual Campaign Fundraising. #Dobletested
