Our story began five years ago with a straightforward concept: a mobile truck that brought access to creativity directly to the community. This initial spark evolved into an 8,000-square-foot facility dedicated to empowering a new generation of entrepreneurs and innovators. Now, we’re scaling new heights with a new creative space—a 20,000-square-foot building in the heart of Uptown Charlotte, located on the historic site of the former Gantt Huberman building. This expansion aims to bridge Uptown Charlotte with the under-resourced communities in the Corridors of Opportunity, creating a thriving ecosystem where potential can flourish. As we stood before this iconic site, we were inspired to ask ourselves, “Why not?” and “Why not Do Greater?” This isn’t just about growth; it’s a testament to what we define as ‘visionary grit’—the relentless drive not only to dream but also to act and succeed. At Do Greater, our name is our mission. We are committed to pushing boundaries, overcoming obstacles, and making a real, tangible impact. As we build this space and join the skyline of opportunity, let’s remember that grit means more than just beginning—it means persisting, adapting, and thriving through every challenge. The Do Greater, Inc. | The Creative Labs - Uptown “The Start Up, Starts Here.” It’s’ truly exciting to see the New Creative Lab Uptown being constructed in the historic offices of Gantt Huberman Architects. This will not be just a space — it’s a tribute to the visionary legacy of Former Mayor Harvey Gantt and his commitment to innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Harvey Gantt’s journey has been a blueprint for resilience and progress. The first Black student at Clemson University, Gantt broke barriers in architecture and became a pioneer in urban planning and the first Black Mayor of the City of Charlotte. His firm, Gantt Huberman, built some of Charlotte’s most significant spaces — including the Charlotte Transportation Center, ImaginOn and the Dubois Center at University of North Carolina at Charlotte . Yet his vision went far beyond buildings; it was about empowering people and uplifting communities. Gantt understood that spaces like this one are incubators for ideas, creativity, and entrepreneurial growth — a place where big dreams can take flight. Our New Creative Lab Uptown aims to embody this vision. It’s designed as a hub for creators, innovators, and emerging entrepreneurs to come together, collaborate, and turn ideas into impact. Located in a space that was once a cornerstone for transformative design, we’re inspired by Gantt’s belief in inclusive innovation. This lab will serve as a launchpad for the next generation of changemakers, giving them the resources, mentorship, and collaborative environment they need to succeed. We are excited to carry forward Gantt’s legacy by creating a space where creativity meets opportunity, and where every dreamer, creator, and entrepreneur has the chance to thrive.
