Not far from the busy Route 18 in East Brunswick, a collaborative project between DMR's planners and architects, the East Brunswick Ice Rink, is underway. DMR’s planning team first wrote the redevelopment plan for the property at 110 Tices Lane in 2018, calling for the developer to provide site improvements that would support the future ice rink. DMR’s architecture team then proceeded with the design and construction documents of the facility, designing an 84,000 SF, twin-rink arena that is expected to become a community hub for East Brunswick. Construction completion is expected in the summer of 2025. #NJarchitects #NJplanners

DMR’s Kurt Vierheilig, AIA,LEED was among the architects interviewed by School Leader magazine about the connection between school design and student achievement. “Kurt Vierheilig, a partner and the director of design at DMR Architects, keeps the overarching goal of designing buildings where students and teachers can succeed top of mind at all times. How school design interfaces with student achievement is ‘so important that maybe people don’t talk about it enough. Everyone is concerned with how much a building costs … just being able to deliver a school to ease capacity issues and get students into proper classrooms has become a huge focus. Getting as much right as possible during the design process is key when it comes to improving learning and academic achievement. Good architects and good designers who understand the K-12 environment know how little things can make a big difference.’” #NJarchitects

Of the more than 1,000 educational projects completed by DMR Architects, more than 80% can be categorized as reinvestment relationships that have spanned decades, touched most of the districts’ buildings and guided the community through major moments. DMR has supported at least 30 districts through 25 projects each, a window into the role that an architect plays in the process of providing modern, safe and stimulating infrastructure for learning. In addition to choosing a capable designer, choosing the right architectural partner for these projects means choosing a firm that can identify?unique funding sources, comprehend pragmatic functions of the building, consider?how construction projects will disrupt the existing ecosystem?and examine every opportunity for a chance to improve functionality. #NJarchitects
