March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, a time to celebrate the incredible individuals with developmental disabilities and advocate for inclusion, understanding, and opportunities for all! ???? A Look Back: The History of DD Awareness Month In 1987, President Ronald Reagan officially declared March as Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, calling on our nation to increase understanding and create a society that welcomes and supports individuals with disabilities. Since then, communities across the country have worked together to promote acceptance, break barriers, and empower those with unique abilities. Our Mission at the Developmental Learning Center At DLC, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing, Christ-centered environment where children and young adults with special needs and medical complexities receive the care, education, and support they deserve. ?? Welcome Our New Board Member: Dr. Debra Depto-Hoffman! ?? The Developmental Learning Center is thrilled to welcome Dr. Debra Depto-Hoffman, PT, DPT, PCS to our Board of Directors! With an impressive career spanning over 35 years in pediatric and adult neurological rehabilitation, Dr. Depto-Hoffman brings a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and passion to our mission. Currently an Assistant Professor at the University of North Florida, she has been shaping the next generation of physical therapists since 2022, following six years as an adjunct professor. As a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy, Dr. Depto-Hoffman is dedicated to providing specialized care for children with neurological and developmental challenges. Her commitment to lifelong learning, advocacy, and hands-on clinical experience makes her an invaluable addition to DLC’s leadership. We look forward to the impact she will have in guiding our programs and enhancing the care we provide to the children and families we serve. Goodbye 2024, Hello 2025! As the year draws to a close, our hearts are overflowing with gratitude for the incredible blessings we’ve experienced at the Developmental Learning Center in 2024. To our families, staff, volunteers, and donors—you have been the hands and feet of God in this ministry. Your unwavering support has made a lasting impact on the lives of the children and families we serve. We are deeply thankful for the time you’ve so generously volunteered, the prayers you’ve lifted up, the donations you’ve made, and the community support you’ve shown. Each act of kindness has been a beacon of hope and a reminder of the power of love in action. As we step into 2025, we are filled with anticipation for the blessings to come.
