关于我们

DKMS is an international nonprofit where creativity, initiative, compassion, collaboration and strategic thinking are rewarded as we work together to expand our reach, recruit more bone marrow donors and help save more lives. Following the establishment of DKMS, our German predecessor, we were founded in 2004 in the U.S. as DKMS Americas, and since renamed DKMS. With the firm belief that people everywhere can play an active role in saving the lives of others with blood cancers and blood and bone marrow disorders, our mission is to grow the number of suitable bone marrow and blood stem cell donors for patients in need of a transplant. Today, DKMS is comprised of nearly 100 passionate employees and thousands of volunteers who work tirelessly toward a common goal of facilitating successful donations. Many of our employees have personally seen the urgent need for a vast and diverse donor registry, giving the organization an unmatched level of energy, creativity and dedication. DKMS is part of the world’s largest network of bone marrow donor centers, having registered more than 6 million people. Currently, nearly 56,000 those have gone on to donate to a patient.

Meet Craig Bass Craig Bass didn’t hesitate when he got the call to donate. And just two days later, he was back on the tennis court. "I played 2 hours of tennis and on the second day after donation with no problem."-Craig Bass While our medical team might not recommend that level of activity so soon, Craig’s experience proves that donating isn’t debilitating. Gym-goers, athletes, and anyone with an active lifestyle can quickly return to their routines. Now, Craig wants to do even more—he’s interested in running his own donor drive. Craig is a semi-retired healthcare executive, an avid competitor, and someone who embraced the opportunity to help a patient in need. His story is truly worth sharing. #DKMS #MakeAnImpact #Gift

Facing Fears and Saving Lives Earlier this year, Paul from Fife stepped up in a big way—overcoming his fear of needles to donate his stem cells and help save a stranger. Paul shares: “I was really excited when I found out I was a match! Even though I was a bit nervous about the donation…The nurses were amazing. I told them I was scared of needles, so they played music, covered everything up, and put me at ease. Before I knew it, the time had flown by! I was well taken care of—plenty of chats, food, and support. My friends and family were so proud, especially knowing I faced my fear to help someone else. Even better, a few people signed up after hearing my story!” “If you’re thinking about registering but worried about needles, just go for it! It’s really not as scary as it sounds. If you’re healthy and able—just do it.” Know someone who’s hesitant because of needles? Share Paul’s story to help ease their fears and maybe even inspire them to save a life!

Honoring Bob – Racing to Save Lives Bob Meder was full of joy—an incredible husband, devoted father, and a man who truly embraced life. His favorite saying was, “It doesn’t get any better than this.” But in 2012, everything changed. Just three weeks after being diagnosed with a rare leukemia, Bob passed away before he could receive a bone marrow transplant. On March 16, 2025, I’m running the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon in Bob’s memory and raising $5,000 for DKMS, a global nonprofit dedicated to fighting blood cancer by registering lifesaving bone marrow donors. Bob never got the chance for a transplant, but thousands of patients still can—if they find a matching donor. Every dollar raised helps register new donors who could be someone’s cure. Join us.
