DKI Health works closely with the obesity community, and we were excited to hear from thought leaders in the space at an insightful #SXSW panel. Moderator Rhonda Janice Pacheco of Eli Lilly and Company led a powerful discussion with patient advocate Shenese Davis Colwell, MBA, clinical pharmacist Jasmine Gonzalvo, and obesity medicine physician Angela Fitch MD, FACP, MFOMA, Dipl. ABOM, highlighting key ways to drive change: - Better provider training for long-term, evidence-based treatment. - Compassion over judgment to break stigma and encourage care-seeking. - Community-driven models to improve access and support. - Policy change to expand insurance coverage and ensure equitable care. At DKI Health, we know that meaningful change requires collaboration across healthcare, advocacy, and policy. Let’s keep pushing for solutions that truly support patients. It was great to hear these insights—looking forward to continuing the conversation! #ObesityCare #HealthEquity #BreakingBarriers #DKImpact

?? On this World Obesity Day 2025, we're proud to share this powerful video from the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC), raising awareness and fostering change for those affected by obesity. A huge thank you to President of OAC, Joe Nadglowski, for his invaluable partnership with DKI Health as a member of our Patient and Caregiver Advisory Council. Together, we're amplifying the voices of patients and caregivers while working toward a more inclusive and supportive healthcare environment for all. To get involved in patient advocacy, visit the OAC website to learn how you can help drive change: www.obesityaction.org #DKImpact #WorldObesityDay2025 #PatientAdvocacy #MarketAccess
Today is World Obesity Day! Obesity is a complex, chronic disease, and we need system-wide change to improve awareness, policies and access to care. Hear from Sarah Bramblette, OAC’s Senior Advocacy Manager, on why expanding access to obesity treatment is critical. Right now, Medicare excludes coverage for obesity medications, leaving millions without the care they need. But change could be coming! A new proposal from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) could finally expand coverage. This World Obesity Day, take action to help change the system and urge the Trump Administration to support CMS in expanding obesity care! https://bit.ly/3QFis0I #WOD2025 #WorldObesityDay #ObesityCareWeek #CommitToCare

In October, DKI Health’s Consulting Team members?virtually attended the 2nd Annual Health Equity in Action (HEIA) Summit. This year’s theme was?#CommunitiesForward. In a session titled “How Community Organizations Can Influence Health Policy,” experts explored the critical role of community-based and faith-based organizations in advocating for equitable health policies. ?? Here are the key insights shared: - Francisco (Pancho) Argüelles Paz y Puente, Senior Director for Network and Powerbuilding at The Praxis Project, emphasized that lasting relationships with communities built on mutual aid and support are crucial to advancing health equity. - Francys Crevier, JD, Chief Executive Officer at National Council of Urban Indian Health (Official), stressed the power of voting and youth engagement in driving positive change in health outcomes. - Vacheria Keys, JD, Associate Vice President of Policy & Regulatory Affairs at National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), demonstrated how health centers actively tackle social determinants of health by addressing food access and environmental health issues. - Dr. Yolanda Lawson, MD, Chairperson, Board of Directors National Medical Association, highlighted the pivotal role of faith-based organizations in combating disparities in marginalized communities. As a key takeaway, we learned more about the impact of Community Health Centers (CHCs). CHCs are essential in providing access to healthcare to underserved and marginalized communities in the US. Many CHC clients face food insecurity and live below the national poverty level. Given post-pandemic recertification barriers, those insured via Medicaid may struggle to maintain coverage. The session’s moderator was?the Honorable Ajay Pittman, an Oklahoma House of Representatives member.?Ajay and the panelists shared their experiences of how patient-led boards that bring community stories and personal narratives directly to policymakers have shaped health policy on the local and national levels. At DKI Health we seek to bring awareness to disparities in healthcare access as champions of Health Equity. We will continue to work with our industry partners and leaders to recognize the economic impact of healthcare disparities and advocate for policies that impact change. Dianna Cohen reflects on an inspiring Obesity Week 2024: #ObesityWeek2024 was an incredible opportunity to connect with experts and advocates who are deeply committed to advancing obesity care and tackling its complex challenges. The conference showcased cutting-edge research, real progress on multifaceted treatment approaches, and valuable perspectives on the challenges faced in equitable healthcare access for obesity management. A few speakers truly stood out: ?? Dr. Angela Golden, DNP, FAANP, FOMA, FTOS delivered a powerful session on the new ICD-10 codes, which will help standardize obesity diagnoses and improve patient care, making it easier to track and address this condition holistically. ?? Dr. James Simon, a leader in women’s health, provided crucial insights into how obesity intersects with women’s health, stressing the importance of gender-specific care in both research and treatment. ?? Sarah Le Brocq’s shared lived experience with obesity brought a powerful, personal dimension to the discussions. Her story reminded attendees of the complexities of obesity beyond the clinical data and highlighted the importance of empathy and understanding in patient care. ?? Dr. Darcy Freedman explored how food systems and health equity are linked, emphasizing the critical need for systemic change to improve access to nutritious food in underserved communities. ?? Dr. Lee Kaplan introduced the “quintuple aim” of obesity treatment— a framework that calls for a focus on quality of life, patient satisfaction, and equitable access, which resonates strongly as we work towards more patient-centered, ethical care. ?? Drs. Robert Siegel and John Lewis offered thought-provoking insights on the economic, ethical, and practical complexities surrounding new anti-obesity medications. Their candor in addressing our questions on compounded GLP-1 medications provided a clearer view of how they help patients make informed choices amid these emerging treatment options. ??Dr. Tina K Thethi shared compelling data on the connection between weight reduction and improved cardiometabolic health, reinforcing the profound impact that effective obesity management can have on overall health.?? We left this conference with a wealth of knowledge, renewed purpose, and a broader network of professionals who share our commitment to advancing the science of obesity care and ensuring equitable, ethical treatment for all. The conversations and shared insights have only fueled our passion for continued innovation and compassionate care in this space. We look forward to collaborating with more experts to drive lasting change! #ObesityCare #HealthEquity #PatientCenteredCare #HealthcareInnovation
