Beyond design, Johan is a true creative—whether he’s capturing the world through his camera lens, debating classic films, or exploring the possibilities of 3D-printed dog toys. Transforming spaces, one brushstroke at a time! ???? Last month, our team joined Flip My Florida Yard to bring a native garden and mural to Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School—blending art, landscape, and community. Huge thanks to the students, teachers, the volunteers, and Belgard who made this project possible!

As landscape architects, designers, and visionaries, we constantly ask, What If? In 2020, we brought this idea to life with a hands-on community activation, inviting residents to reimagine Orlando’s Ivanhoe Village. Through interactive displays, we explored how streetscapes could become more walkable, bike-friendly, and engaging. Guided by our 6D process, we envisioned bold possibilities—because great design starts with a simple question: What if? Now we want to know from you, what’s one space in your community that makes you ask, What If?

It is always an honor and humbling experience to be asked to share your knowledge and experience to help others on their journey. It's also FUN! I was invited by my good friend and prof, Kevin Thompson, for UF's Landscape Architecture School to teach what I refer to as Design Thinking Through Drawing. This is certainly not a new idea yet these day is left behind with the advent of modeling tech. The goal is to help people have that ability in their head to facilitate a direct mind to paper connection! A great quote attributed to Le Corbusier, ‘I prefer drawing to talking. Drawing is faster and leaves less room for lies.’ To me, it also is an opening into possibilities once lies emerge from your pen! By understanding the basics of perspective, one can explore, communicate, and discuss ideas through sketched proposals while on site since initial site visits are crucial for sensory input, observation, and inspiration of forms, textures, and space! And bonus!: I learned a lot myself and met a lot of cool people in an awesome venue at South Main Station! Good times! . And I appreciate the time investment that my studio mates at Dix.Hite afford me in this sharing process! Neglected for over 70 years, this sacred space is now a living memorial, honoring the past while fostering new life.
