关于我们
This page is the official hub for current or former University of Oklahoma's Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Design (PLAD) students created in Fall 2023. The new PLAD division was created through the administrative consolidation of four separate Gibbs College divisions and programs: Environmental Design, Landscape Architecture, Regional and City Planning, and Urban Design. By consolidating these programs into one division, Gibbs College seeks to foster a stronger teaching, research and service setting, facilitate more collaborations involving faculty and students and optimize administrative and operational efficiencies. This LinkedIn page serves as a resource for news, events, job and internship opportunities, and the accomplishments of current students and alumni of the PLAD division.

Nikki Nice, a PLAD student, and IQC Director and PLAD Professor, Vanessa Morrison, led the charge to preserve the the Jewel Theater in NE OKC! This historical theater is now the only remaining Black-owned building from the city’s pre-desegregation era. If you would like to learn more, both about the project and the preservation journey, the Oklahoman article below will be informative. https://lnkd.in/eaFBxrwg

I’m delighted to share that our open access text book is published and now available free of cost for students, scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and all who are interested in Transportation and Sustainability. It was a great honor to co-author this book with Dr. Ariadna Reyes-Sánchez and Soheil Sharifi-Asl. This effort funded by the U.S. Department of Education dives deep into the linkage between urban transportation planning, sustainable mobility, and climate change mitigation through planning and decision-making. I want to extend my sincere thanks to Dr. Ivonne Audirac for her leadership and congratulate all the OERTransport team for this incredible achievement. Organized into three comprehensive sections, it equips learners with the tools and perspectives to address pressing issues in sustainable urban mobility: ?? Sustainability, Transportation Equity, and Planning? ?? Case Studies and Lessons from the North and South? ?? Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Cities, and Mobility The textbook features eleven chapters, each packed with discussion questions, reading materials, and in-class exercises to guide students in developing their own research papers on transportation. This book is part of a six-volume series produced under the grant OERTransport: Enabling Transportation Planning Professional Advancement, a collaborative effort among UTA, California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), and the University of South Florida. Funded by the Open Textbooks Pilot grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), this project reflects the power of collaboration in advancing educational access. Licensed under CC BY-NC-SA, this OER can be shared and adapted for non-commercial purposes with proper attribution, fostering broader accessibility and impact. The ACSP 2024 Annual Conference is coming up! It will take place in Seatle on November 7-9 and one of our very own students, Tahsin Tabassum, will be there to discuss her paper, “Exploring Transportation Justice and Equity through the Transportation Justice Threshold Index Framework in Municipalities of Oklahoma County, Oklahoma.” Tahsim has also received the Ed McClure Award for Best Master’s Student Paper by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP), so it is a time to celebrate! After the conference, we will get an exclusive interview from her, to discuss what led her to go into her field and so much more! So again Congrats Tahsim Tabassum for your achievements and good luck at the conference, you will do great!

Wonderful to see Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture and Design (PLAD) students making a difference in Oklahoma communities. ??
I had a great time at the International Economic Development Council’s annual conference earlier this week! It was good to connect with ED professionals across the U.S. and learn about programs they’ve implemented in their communities. A highlight of the event was getting to hear Srijita Ghosh’s story about navigating entrepreneurship as an immigrant and the importance of accessibility with ecosystem building. Looking forward to applying some of these takeaways in my own work and continuing this conversation with the AJF team!
