Investing in yourself isn’t just about money! It’s about dedicating time to sharpen your skills, fueling your knowledge, and even pouring energy into your hobbies and self-care. Whether leveling up your career or finding moments to recharge, these investments pay off in ways beyond the paycheck. ?? Here are a few things I invest in as a software engineer: 1?? Resources to continue my learning and education Two things are constant as an engineer - change and the opportunity to learn! I invest in resources like Frontend Masters that I can always rely on when I need a quick refresher or want to dive deep into a new topic. 2?? Membership to professional technical networks Professional technical networks like /dev/color allow me to meet and make meaningful connections with other developers. 3?? Tools that make me a more productive engineer Organizing my day with Notion and my developer workflow with tools like GitHub Copilot provides the perfect structure for my day! 4?? Myself Investing in myself, my hobbies, and my mental health is essential for staying balanced, focused, and showing up as my best self—both in and out of work. 5?? A cozy space to get away, decompress, and relax I've been working on creating a cozy book nook to relax in when I'm ready to put the computer down. Having a curated space of my favorite things allows me to wind down

There is growing interest in consulting and freelancing as an alternative to the traditional 9-5 job, especially with all the tech layoffs over the past 2 years. Between UX consulting and career coaching, I've been self employed for over half of my career (2013, 2015-2016, 2018-now). The challenges, creativity, experimentation, learning, and autonomy suit me very well.
