Before you have window washers start scrubbing away at your building, we need to make sure everything is in place for them to do it safely. 1.) Certified Anchorages According to OSHA, most exterior building maintenance (EBM) systems require anchor points to be Certified by a Qualified Person. These anchors are used for their primary line of connection, typically attached to a Bosun's chair. These anchors must be Certified to withstand constant tension and be fall arrest-rated in the event of a fall. 2.) Secondary Connection Line Additionally, workers must have a secondary anchorage to attach their Class 2 Self-Retracting Lifeline (SRL). This anchorage must be within 15 degrees of the worker to reduce the swingfall that would occur during a fall. 3.) Training Workers must be properly trained on the OSHA requirements for these systems and their proper use according to the manufacturer. This training will keep the building owner accountable on maintaining a compliant system and provide the user with the knowledge to ensure they are working safely.
