The biggest heist in history going down under our noses
Here’s the sitch…
?????? ????????: O?c?e?a?n?’?s? ?1?1 Altman’s LLM
?????? ??????????: Everything that's ever been published on the internet
?????? ????????: Us chumps who write content on the internet for a living
They're not tryna hide it btw...
"It would be impossible to train today’s leading AI models without using copyrighted materials", OpenAI told the House of Lords.
In other words:
"We’re sorry if you’re offended that we’ve stolen all your content to train our LLM on, everyone ??”
So, that fucking sucks
But it’s happening
And we can boot off about it
Or we can make sure our clients are showing up when folks search ChatGPT for:
?? “Best pizza in New York”
?? “Content marketing communities”
?? “How to stop ChatGPT from stealing my content”
Or whatever they want to be showing up for
Because you?can?do that
Ross Simmonds has figured out how
He shared his notes in a Moz Whiteboard Friday
And I dove into the best bits for Top of the Funnel…

LLMs ?? UGC – so you need to be seeding the likes of Reddit and Quora with your content if you want to influence what appears in ChatGPT and co’s results
?? ?????? ?????????????????? ??????????
"If you wanna navigate the next few years of this industry, you need to start thinking not just about Google, but also about how people are searching in other channels and in other formats. From video to audio, to answers in questions on TripAdvisor, to Quora, to Stack Overflow, Trustpilot, SlideShare, and so much more."

Google and Reddit are kissing in a tree, L-L-M-&-U-G-C ??
Quick recap of the two tech titans’ sordid affair so far:
Google boosted Reddit to the top of every SERP
Then the lovebirds made it official by striking an AI content licensing deal
So, if you can crack Reddit you’ll appear in:
→ Today’s top ranking organic search results
→ Tomorrow’s AI Overviews
One lil' problem…
Reddit hates marketers
Ross has been banned from there eight times ??
But he’s picked up a few tricks along the way
Today, his Reddit marketing playbook is:
Submit links to your content – but only in relevant subreddits (that allow it)
Leave great comments on trending threads (and slip links to your content in those where you can)
And this one is kinda suss, but…
If you’re marketing wireless headphones, pop over to?r/HeadphoneAdvice?and ask “What are the best wireless headphones these days?”...
Then a few months later, edit your post to say something like "Thank you so much for all the comments. Check out my website"
So then the link to your client’s site is gonna show up at the top of that thread
And maybe the LLMs will plug it when folks ask them what the best wireless headphones are…
Or maybe that’ll get you banned from Reddit ??
Don’t say Ross didn’t warn you if it does ??
I’ll pop a link to his banger Moz Whiteboard Friday in the comments ??
