Last Friday, Discord’s Black and African American Movement (BAAM) Employee Resource Group had the privilege of hosting The Cookout, a virtual event where we brought together Black peers from various ERGs across the gaming industry. The event was a vibrant celebration of community, featuring inspiring speakers, networking opportunities, games, and live performances and the BAAM ERG is still feeling all of the good vibes a week later. The goal was to strengthen bonds not just within Discord, but across the broader industry, supporting and uplifting Black professionals in gaming. A big thank you to Black ERG communities and everyone from other companies like ABK, Black at Xbox, Riot Noir, Zenimax and countless others for making this event a success. We’re excited to announce the launch of our Guardian’s Guide to help guardians better understand Discord, how the platform works, and equip them with the tools needed to check in with teens and start conversations about building positive online behaviors.

Excited to reveal our Teen Charter, which includes a set of principles that represent the expectations teens have of each other and of Discord. It was built with the collective input of teens and global organizations Digital Wellness Lab, NoFiltr.org, and ThinkYoung to guide users in creating a fun and comfortable space to play and chill with their friends, especially as people go back to school.

Every July, Discord joins national communities in recognizing Disability Pride Month. This is a time of collectively promoting visibility, raising awareness about the challenges and triumphs of the disabled community, and advocating for dignity, respect, and inclusion for all. This year’s celebration coincided with the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990. This landmark legislation has been instrumental in ensuring the civil rights of disabled individuals, aiming to prohibit the discrimination of those with disabilities and help promote accessibility in all areas of public life. Discord’s Brain & Body Works Employee Resource Group is committed to building belonging for all kinds of bodies and minds. Disability Pride Month encourages us to see disability as a natural part of human diversity, and the Brain & Body Works ERG was created to build intentional safe spaces for people, regardless of ability status, and to advocate for the needs of physically disabled folks and neurodivergent individuals. Happy Pride Month! This month, Discord’s Pride ERG recognized the LGBTQIA+ community with moments that highlighted the rich history, impact, and culture of queer and trans folks globally. Discord employees attended mental wellness sessions on Intersectionality and identity mapping with Anise Health, unwound with Art Therapy, and flaunted their brains during LGBTQIA+ trivia. Pride month at Discord, and beyond, is a time for a global celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community.
