The ongoing wildfires in California are a sobering reminder that disasters can happen any time, anywhere. And even after the initial catastrophe, it can take years to rebuild and recover. The media moves on, but lives are forever changed. SVdP USA and Disaster Services Corporation partner with local Vincentians to help survivors throughout the long and arduous recovery process. We are people of faith and action, rooted in love. Many Vincentians have reached out to the National Council, asking how they can support those displaced and devastated by the wildfires. If you are looking for ways to help, please consider: Prayer. In the ongoing devastation, prayer is sometimes the greatest gift we can provide. Please pray for those who have lost their homes and their livelihoods, for the firefighters, and for the relief workers and Vincentian volunteers who will spend the next many years helping to rebuild communities and lives. Generosity. If you would like to support SVdP USA and DSC’s work to provide aid and support to survivors of disasters such as the wildfires, please visit https://lnkd.in/e_fFt2Z. Click the Donate Now button, and choose to designate your gift to Domestic Disaster Relief. The LA Council has received trailers and trailers of donated goods — what they need now are our prayers and generosity. If you are able to help, please do so! The need is immeasurable, and the recovery will take a very long time. Thank you for all that you do for our Society and those we serve. In times of disaster, and throughout the year, you make all the difference. May God bless you!

As we mark the 3rd anniversary of the devastating 2021 tornadoes, we celebrate the remarkable progress achieved in Mayfield, KY, and beyond. Today, Vincentian leaders gathered for a special celebration of the Hope Initiative—a project that has brought stability and renewed hope to disaster survivors. We proudly recognize the outstanding contributions of: -Chris Thompson, Conference President - Mayfield -Suzanne Warren, Western District President -Pete Stark, SVDP Disaster Services Representative for Eastern Kentucky -Nancy Harris, SVDP Disaster Services Co-Representative for Western Kentucky Through the House in a Box? program, the Western Kentucky Council of St. Vincent de Paul, under the leadership of Executive Director Richard Remp-Morris, provided over $200,000 in in-kind goods to support 50 new homeowners as part of the Hope Initiative. This achievement is a testament to the power of compassion and community. We extend special thanks to the dedicated staff of the SVDP Western Kentucky Council, including Patrick, Herbie, and Lee at the HIB warehouse, as well as Vicki Duncan, whose tireless efforts in the community have inspired hope and healing. Collectively, their work has supported over 600 tornado survivor families, making a lasting impact. A heartfelt commendation also goes to Pete Stark and Nancy Harris, whose invaluable contributions to disaster relief and recovery embody the Society of St. Vincent de Paul’s mission to serve those in need. This vital work would not have been possible without the generosity and unwavering support of the community, along with a pivotal gift from the Kentucky Colonels. Their compassion and belief in the power of recovery have been instrumental in bringing the Hope Initiative to fruition. None of these accomplishments would have been achievable without the collaboration of the Western Kentucky Diocesan Council, the SVDP Disaster Services House in a Box? program, and the countless donors who stood by the survivors during their time of greatest need. The profound impact of the House in a Box? program resonates through stories of resilience and recovery, reminding us all of the strength within our communities. Moments like these inspire us to continue walking with those in need, rebuilding stronger communities, and offering hope for a brighter future. #Nonprofit #DisasterRecovery #Kentucky #Tornado #disastersurvivor
