关于我们
Disability Law Colorado protects and promotes the rights of people with disabilities in Colorado through direct legal representation, advocacy, education and legislative analysis. We are are committed to increasing opportunities for adults and children with disabilities to live, work and attend school in the community, enjoying independent and productive lives. In 1977, the governor designated Disability Law Colorado to be Colorado’s Protection and Advocacy (P&A) System for people with developmental disabilities. Over time, Congress expanded the P&A network which now includes eight federally mandated programs that allow us to reach out to more people with disabilities. Today, Disability Law Colorado is a nationally-recognized leader in the National Disability Rights Network made up of Protection and Advocacy programs from all the states and territories.

Imagine being asked to keep your child with disabilities home from school without any formal suspension or documentation. For many Colorado families, hidden suspensions are creating an invisible barrier to education for students who need support the most. Colorado’s HB 24-1063 was created to end this practice, ensuring that schools meet federal standards and provide a supportive, inclusive environment. The new law mandates documented support plans and accountability measures, no matter the staffing or funding challenges. In an eye-opening Op-ed, Rep. Mary Young and Emily Harvey, a DLC staff attorney, explain why this issue matters now more than ever and outline ways we can protect Colorado’s most vulnerable students.
