Creating accessible and inclusive communities and promoting independence for all people with disabilities..
关于我们
Disability Network of Mid-Michigan (DNMM) The Disability Experts in Your Community Our mission is to promote and encourage independence for all people with disabilities. We provide an array of services to people of all ages and with many types of disabilities. Our services include: Independent Living Skills Building Information & Referral Community Transitions Peer Support & Mentoring Skill Development Systems and Individual Advocacy We provide these services to people in Alcona, Arenac, Bay, Clare, Gladwin, Gratiot, Iosco, Isabella, Midland, Ogemaw, Roscommon, and Saginaw counties. Through our mission-driven work, we touch more than 10,000 people each year either through direct services or community education. DNMM is a consumer-run grassroots disability organization. We are a federally-funded Center for Independent Living. We believe in the Independent Living Philosophy: people with disabilities are the best experts on their needs and therefore they must take the initiative - individually and collectively - in designing and promoting better solutions and must organize themselves for political power. We believe that people with disabilities have the same right to participation, to the same range of options, degree of freedom, control and self-determination in every day life and life projects, that other citizens take for granted. Thus, we - as IL activists - seek the removal of infrastructure and institutional/attitudinal barriers in our communities. DNMM is a CARF-accredited, United Way, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

As we enter the holiday season, we encourage our staff and supporters to think of others who may be struggling. Donating your time to local non-profits like soup kitchens or food banks can make a huge difference in someone’s life. In the spirit of giving, Disability Network Mid-Michigan is an official collection point for Toys For Tots, whose objective is to help less fortunate children experience the joy of Christmas. We are collecting new, unwrapped toys at our Midland location, 1705 S. Saginaw Road, until mid-December. #ToysForTots #DNMM

Disability rights activist Alice Wong received a MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant” for her work as a disability justice activist. She uses storytelling across various platforms to share her own experiences and other people’s stories to reveal how ableist attitudes, policies, and practices marginalize people with disabilities. We are thankful for her commitment to increasing the political and cultural visibility of people with disabilities!

On this Veterans Day, Disability Network Mid-Michigan would like to thank those who have protected our country by serving in the armed forces. Many veterans face a new battle after they return home with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a complex mental health disorder triggered by experiencing or witnessing traumatic events, often seen in combat situations. If you or someone you know is struggling with PTSD and need help, contact us at (989) 835-4041.
