The Disability Leadership Institute has now become a global community of disability leaders, supporting each other through a community of practice and member peer coaching groups. Our major program The Future Shapers is the first program anywhere to weave the disability experience into mainstream leadership development. A Pledge for Evidence-Based Disability Inclusion in Maldives Fresh from the 2025 Asia Regional Disability Summit in Bangkok, I'm proud to share our national pledge: establishing a comprehensive Disability Research Initiative. However, turning this vision into reality requires strong government support and commitment. Our pledge promises to revolutionize how we understand and address disability inclusion through: - The first nationwide disability survey across all atolls - A permanent research unit led by persons with disabilities - A centralized database tracking progress and needs Here's why government backing is crucial: This initiative needs dedicated funding, cross-ministry coordination, and official mandate to succeed. We're calling on the Government of Maldives to support this three-year commitment (2025-2028) that will transform disability policies from well-meaning gestures into evidence-based solutions. The summit showed us how other Asian nations are making strides through data-driven approaches. Maldives can lead by example, but only if we invest in understanding our unique island context and the diverse needs of our disability community. I invite officials, policymakers, and disability advocates to discuss how we can make this pledge a reality. But I refuse to be governed by shame and self-disgust, to remain stagnant and stuck in unhealthy patterns. I will change and grow and learn, no matter how long it takes, one photo at a time." https://lnkd.in/gScXGHrZ ?? I wrote an article for ABC Lifestyle about shame and self-acceptance. The article focuses on photos, but there are so many other ways I am learning to be kind to myself, and every one of them is the reason I can do the work I do. Sometimes it's journalling, sometimes it's long and rambling voice notes to trusted friends and sometimes it's simply napping without calling myself lazy. What helps you with self-acceptance?
