I've been watching the WordPress situation unfold... and it's got me thinking about the challenges of running an open-source project at scale. Sooo, full disclosure, I've never used WordPress. Probably never will. But I respect what they've built and the community they've fostered. It's certainly no small feat. When you're dealing with millions of users and a massive ecosystem, every decision is high-stakes. One wrong move and you risk alienating a huge swath of your community. But sometimes, you've got to make tough calls to keep the lights on and the project moving forward. We faced something similar at Directus last year when we updated our license. It kept me up at night, but it transformed our business. Here's what we learned: 1. Transparency isn't just nice to have — it's essential. We involved our community every step of the way. 2. Open source needs new models to thrive long-term. The classic approach of "create value, hope that your users reciprocate" isn't sustainable. 3. Balance is key. You've got to find that sweet spot between idealism and sustainability. 4. Your community is your biggest asset. Listen to them, involve them, but be ready to make hard decisions when needed. I don't know the ins and outs of WordPress's decision-making process. But I do know that running an open-source project means constantly navigating these choppy waters. At the end of the day, it's about finding ways to keep innovating, serving your users, respecting your contributors, and yes, keeping the lights on. Here's to all the open-source maintainers out there, making tough calls and pushing forward. Your work matters. ??

Just Released my first official Directus Extension Package to soon will be accessible inside the Directus Marketplace for those who use the directus cloud. Directus Auto Generation Interface. Support templating, arithmetic operations. Concat strings, sum, subtract, multiply, modulo, convert to slug, currency, etc. Can be used as an alias field. Calculation is performed on the client side, so it would not work if the item is created/updated via direct API calls or hooks. Lightweight. No third-party libraries. Works with the Current CMS theme or Override it for custom Styles

Did You Know?! Did you know that Directus has extremely granular roles and permissions built in out of the box. You can create any custom role based on the content thats in the database, as well as who's signed in to name just a couple things. Down to row level and field level.
