Another horizonal remediation well project was recently completed by Ellingson-DTD crews. The horizontal SVE wells at this site entered the ground in the parking lot and trended under a “pack & mail” store, terminating under a dry cleaner. The crew completed the work during normal business hours, the only intrusion inside the retail establishments was for borehole tracking. Three-inch, schedule 80 PVC well screen and casing were utilized for the well materials. The wells averaged 95’ in length with 30’ of screen in each well. The formation at the site was mostly silty sand. Because the wells are completed above the water table, biopolymer drilling fluid was utilized for the drilling and well installation.

During the presentation, I will address various challenges to successful installation, including small site footprints, bore navigation concerns, short set back distances, drilling fluid venting, and issues with existing utilities.
