Construction has officially begun on a new 19-story affordable housing project at 41 LaGrange St in Boston, MA. This project will house residents with a mix of incomes and will feature 126 apartments, 70 of which are dedicated to permanent supportive housing for those who have experienced homelessness. Cardinal Seán P. O’Malley, archbishop of Boston, shared, “Respect for the dignity of all people includes doing all possible to provide every person a safe home. Too many members of our community are either homeless or on the verge of homelessness for reasons that include the rising cost of housing in Boston. As part of Construction Suicide Prevention Week, the project teams at Rhode Island College Clarke Science Center and Providence College Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences hosted Michael Currier from Building Futures | Apprenticeship RI to lead discussions on mental health and suicide awareness. The sessions concluded with a moment of silence, honoring those who may be struggling or know someone who is.
