Training health workers in low-resource settings has always been a challenge. But what if AI could help? Dimagi and Zvandiri with support from Endless are testing CATSCoach, an AI-driven chatbot designed to mentor Community Adolescent Treatment Supporters (CATS) in Zimbabwe. By leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), CATSCoach provides real-time, adaptive coaching—offering frontline workers a way to practice difficult conversations, reinforce learning, and build confidence. What we’ve learned: ?? AI-powered role-play helps users practice real-world scenarios. ?? Adaptive learning needs refinement—early feedback shows that personalized training is key. ?? Multilingual support matters—fine-tuning translations improves accessibility. Read the full story: https://okt.to/1q2sDB

The Stanford Center for Digital Health (CDH) just released an in-depth report on the use of GenAI in healthcare, particularly in LMICs. Based on expert roundtables, interviews, and a survey of 100+ stakeholders, the report highlights key successes, challenges, and opportunities to scale impact. Dimagi’s Open Chat Studio (OCS) was featured as a platform enabling organizations to quickly build and deploy LLM-powered tools for behavior change and healthcare support. Exciting to see the growing recognition of GenAI’s potential in global health! Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gU66apCB
Our white paper, Generative AI for Health in Low & Middle Income Countries, is now available! This paper examines where GenAI is currently being used, what the greatest successes are, and how we can realize greater impact and unlock the full potential of GenAI, both for behavior change and broader healthcare applications. Our goal was to create a comprehensive resource that helps guide strategic investments and policy decisions. This resource identifies high-impact use cases and priority health areas while also addressing key implementation challenges and offering practical recommendations for future implementation. This research was conducted through two expert workshops—one at Stanford and one in Nairobi, Kenya—along with 24 in-depth qualitative interviews with academics, health system leaders, implementers, and funders, and a survey with 145 respondents. Special thanks to our partners who were instrumental in this work: Stanford, Center For Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, Advancing Health Online (AHO), Bay Area Global Health Alliance, Elizabeth (Lisa) F., Sara Anderson and the research team, which includes Isabella de Vere Hunt, James Parkhouse, Lara Rich, M.Ed, Kang-Xing Jin, Mubarik Imam, Jiyeong (Jasmine) Kim, Dr. Mariana Ramirez Posada, Michael Avanti Lopez, Zachary Ugolnik, Sarah Soule and Eleni Linos.
