One of my favorite discoveries in deploying our Moxi robots isn't just about technology—it's about people. In robotics, we plan for everything. Sensors, mapping, obstacle avoidance, manipulation skills —all critical pieces of the puzzle. But one factor I hadn’t initially accounted for was the 90% chance of encountering pure human kindness. Every time Moxi makes a pharmacy delivery or heads to the lab, there's a good chance that a healthcare co-worker will hold the elevator door, press the button for Moxi's floor, or simply offer a warm smile along the way. It turns out, even though our AI powered behavior models are quite capable of navigating dynamic (and precious) human environments autonomously, human kindness has become a variable that’s nearly always present. This has been one of the most beautiful lessons for me as a roboticist—that no matter how advanced our technology gets, humans bring an irreplaceable generosity to the mix. Not sure if you had the chance to catch the AI special —AI and the Future of Us— last night, but it was really well done with a nice balance of viewpoints. There were some great insights from leaders like Sam Altman and Bill Gates on how AI will shape industries in the next decade. One key takeaway for me was the importance of finding the right balance between AI and human potential. AI can take over the routine tasks that don’t require human ingenuity, while people focus on the creative and meaningful work that drives real progress. Gates pointed out that healthcare, in particular, will see immense changes from AI—not just in automating tasks like data entry, but in driving breakthroughs in drug discovery and research. This is a space we at Diligent Robotics are passionate about, where people plus robots make the best team.?I, of course, loved what the pharmacist in the special said—how she was initially skeptical about robots, but now she can’t imagine her job without them. It’s a great example of how AI can enhance our work, not replace it. As Sam Altman emphasized, AI leaders have a huge responsibility to ensure that this technology improves lives. I’m excited to be part of this journey.
