If you’re an international student struggling to get a job in the US, this is for you. Over the past few months, I’ve spoken with many job seekers who are doing everything right - tailoring resumes, networking, and applying consistently - but still not getting responses. While a small percentage manage to land interviews, most are stuck waiting for that first screening call. If that sounds familiar, here are a few alternative paths that might help: ? Explore Startups: Startups often prioritize skills and potential over formal experience. They provide hands-on learning and rapid growth opportunities. Platforms like Wellfound , Crunchbase, Y Combinator, TrueUp and CrunchBoard can help you discover these hidden opportunities. ? Consider Contract Roles: Contract jobs give you practical experience, flexibility, and a chance to build a professional network. Check out websites like Robert Half, TEKsystems, Kforce Inc, Michael Page and Insight Global for contract openings. ? Look at Mid-Sized Companies: These companies often have less competition and quicker hiring processes. Portals like The Muse, Built In and FlexJobs can help you explore opportunities with companies you may not have considered. ? Use H1B Portals: If visa sponsorship is a priority, leverage platforms like MyVisaJobs.com and H1BGrader to identify companies that sponsor visas. You can filter results based on location and domain. ? Check Out Non-Profits: Non-profits offer a great way to gain experience while making an impact. Websites like Idealist.org, Devex, and HigherEdJobs list relevant opportunities in this sector. The goal is to build experience and strengthen your profile so that you can pivot to your target companies later. Sometimes, a different route can take you exactly where you want to be. Stay flexible and keep exploring. Have you come across any other helpful job boards? Drop them in the comments so others can benefit!
