Hawinet Bekele, our Head of Product, served as a mentor at the Llama 3.1 Impact Sub-Saharan Africa #Hackathon in Kigali, Rwanda, from October 8-10, 2024.? The event, organized by AfriLabs, Meta Facebook, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation,?brought together 100 participants to develop AI-driven solutions addressing gender sensitivity in African languages. Digital Green shared insights on overcoming challenges like #data limitations and language diversity in #AI, while showcasing our work with Farmer.Chat to inspire teams to create inclusive, locally relevant solutions. We were excited to witness the teams' creativity as they refined their prototypes. Eight teams moved forward to incubation, and three earned special recognition. This event highlighted the potential of AI in #Africa and the importance of building inclusive, gender-sensitive technology. #AIForGood

Back to the Roots Yesterday I got back to the grassroots. After spending few years away from it, yesterday was a fresh start for me. The scent of freshly tilled earth, and the resilient faces of our farmers pulled me back to where it all began—the field. Reconnecting with Farmers I learnt so much from the farmers associated with Digital Green in the Sublaid village of Khammam district in Telangana – their stories of resilience and technology interventions which have created a positive impact on their lives. It was so heartening to hear how they are using technology to get past the challenges of farming. A Grateful Heart To the farmers who welcomed me into their fields shared their knowledge and excitement on using Farmer.chat AI assistant app and laughed with me—thank you. You’ve reminded me why I chose this path in the first place. P.S. If you’re wondering, yes, I’ve got a bit of mud on my shoes, and got completely drenched in the sudden rain, yet it felt so good. ??

How are digital tools really impacting Kenyan #farmers? We're excited to share insights from ‘Digital Farmer Services in #Kenya: The Farmer Perspective’, a new report from 60 Decibels based on 1,484 farmers' experiences of digital #agriculture solutions. Some key takeaways: 1?? Digital Adoption: 56% of farmers report using digital tools at least once during the season, with information and advisory services being the most commonly used. 2?? User Satisfaction: Farmers accessing services via mobile phones report higher satisfaction, especially with information and advisory tools. 3?? Untapped Potential: Certain aspects of #digital farmer services have significant unmet demand, such as the 73% of non-users who say they are willing to pay for reliable information services. ??
