Tech Tuesday Thoughts: AI gets a lot of hype some of it deserved, some of it gimmicky but this week, I’m thinking about its real-world applications and one of the biggest moves in our industry: Google ’s acquisition of Wiz for an unprecedented $32 billion. Wiz stormed onto the scene in 2020 and quickly became the fastest software company to hit $100M ARR. They’ve been breaking records ever since, dramatically improving organizations’ cloud visibility and security along the way. We were fortunate to be early partners, bringing Wiz to some of our top customers and consistently beating out the old CSPM guard Palo Alto Networks and Check Point Software included. Honestly, it was probably the fastest POC-to-value we’ve ever delivered, and that’s a big reason why Wiz took off. The team behind Wiz wasn’t new to the game either. They’d already sharpened their cloud security chops with the CASB solution they sold to Microsoft and it showed. The cloud security market has matured quickly, and I think this exit was perfectly timed to maximize value. Since new entrants like Skyhawk Security , Upwind Security, Stream.Security and monsters like CrowdStrike have really improved their Cloud Game making it a much more competitive market. Huge congrats to the Wiz team! Excited to see how Google integrates them into their strategy. Given how well Wiz leveraged visibility into Amazon Web Services (AWS) to prove their value, it’ll be interesting to see if that focus shifts maybe that’s exactly why Google made the move. Google now a major player in our Cybersecurity Market with aquisitions like Mandiant, Siemplify and their Google Chronicle, I’d love to see where this goes. Just my take.
