“It’s not that ‘I couldn’t get it down,’ it’s that I needed to find the right way.” Becca, a student from League of Innovative Schools member district Mineola Public Schools, discovered a new way to learn and explore future career pathways by attending Synergy at Mineola High School, an “alternative offshoot” of the district’s high school designed to reimagine the high school experience, putting time, pace, and space into the hands of students and giving them agency over their own learning. Rethinking traditional ways of doing things to better prepare students for a changing workforce exemplifies the type of innovative practices evident across League of Innovative Schools districts.
