关于我们
The Digital Inquiry Group (DIG for short) is an independent nonprofit organization established by the team behind the Stanford History Education Group (SHEG). Founded by Sam Wineburg in 2002, SHEG became one of the nation’s leading providers of free curriculum in the social studies. DIG spun out of Stanford to be able to act with greater agility and have an even greater impact. Today, our history curriculum and our digital literacy materials have over 15 million downloads and are used in all 50 states and around the globe. Our recent work focuses on preparing young people to be more discerning consumers of the information they encounter online. Through our research, classroom materials, and professional development, we seek to empower learners to make sense of the past and present.

As AI tools become more prevalent, so does the risk of misinformation. In their latest article, ‘What Makes Students (and the Rest of Us) Fall for AI Misinformation,’ Sam Wineburg and Nadav Ziv warn that "educators must show students the limits of AI and teach them the basic skills of internet search for fact-checking what they see." Read the article to learn more about equipping students with the skills they need to discern fact from AI fiction. https://lnkd.in/g5udRrsJ

In today’s digital world, misinformation is a persistent challenge, often exacerbated by our online habits. A recent Washington Post article features our work and explores what Sam Wineburg calls “critical ignoring”: the skill of paying less attention to information that’s "misleading but cognitively attractive.” By conserving our attention, we can resist the emotional pull of misinformation. https://lnkd.in/g5udRrsJ

Is that video of Trump with P’Nut the Squirrel real or fake? “There’s only one way we can spot AI fakes this election cycle and beyond: by admitting we can’t. At least not on our own,” write Sam Wineburg and Nadav Ziv in a new op-ed for The San Francisco Chronicle.? Here are a few research-backed tips from the Digital Inquiry Group to protect yourself online: ? Do you have the chops to engage in digital forensics? — Advanced technology, with the help of PhotoShop, makes fake content appear real. ? Who posted it? — What do you know about them?? ? Silence is a sign to pause — If every major news outlet is mum about a supposedly bombshell video on social media, it’s probably wise to take your finger off “share.” Read the full op-ed here:?https://lnkd.in/g5udRrsJ

“The future of AI should be judged by whether it can pass the 'Wikipedia test.'" In a new op-ed in the Boston Globe, Sam Wineburg and Nadav Ziv urge us to "shake off our reluctance to consult Wikipedia." While critics have admonished against using the site, it’s become a vital resource trusted by professionals, students, and researchers alike. Its community-driven editing and rigorous standards for citing evidence offer a model for responsible information sharing that AI could aspire to match. Read the article and consider Wikipedia’s "test of transparency" as we move further into the age of AI. https://lnkd.in/g5udRrsJ
