We are still embracing the energy from DHNY Summit last week! We are so grateful to our sponsors, attendees, speakers and team who made it all possible. And ICYMI - check out our recap below ?? #DHNY24
“Progress moves at the speed of trust.” That’s a direct quote from Michael Dowling president and CEO of Northwell Health, who served as the keynote speaker at our annual DHNY Summit on Wednesday. Michael’s words underlined each key theme we’re taking away from #DHNY24 which brought together hundreds of health care, health tech, insurance, fin tech and entrepreneurial pacesetters from around the country in its third year. Participants met all day in sessions that contemplated the future of care in the city and beyond. While the summit is over, here are the lessons that will stick with us (and we hope you, too): ?? ?? Consider AI carefully. Speakers illustrated several use cases for artificial intelligence that makes doctors’ and patients’ lives better, including some being used at the city’s preeminent hospitals right now. However, experts emphasized that there are a host of challenges around physician uptake and workflow integration. Founders pitching AI solutions to health systems must prove how their tech will solve systems’ real-world problems. ???? Experts are bullish on certain aspects of the market as New York’s star continues to rise. From direct-to-consumer online pharmacies that streamline medication access to the IPO market reopening, industry leaders are optimistic about the future of health tech after a sluggish 2023. 2024 is off to a solid start–with New York home to about 20% of the deals made in the first half of the year–and 2025 has vast potential. ?? Partnerships are the lynchpin to success. Nearly every speaker–including Mount Sinai Health System’s CEO Brendan G. Carr, MD, MA, MS, and Aegis Ventures co-founder and managing partner John Beadle – emphasized that partnerships are the only way we can move forward in this increasingly complicated healthcare world. Systems, entrepreneurs and financial experts must learn how to work together to solve their most pressing problems and monetize care. As Northwell Health’s Chief Medical Officer Jill Kalman, M.D. said: “Even the largest health systems can’t succeed alone.” ???? Being an expert–and human–will always be crucial. Founders pitching their solutions, health companies looking for value-based care contracts and systems looking to partner with each other must know everything about the other entity in the equation to succeed. Similarly, despite tech’s increasing role in health care, the industry still needs a human touch at every point of care to improve outcomes. ?? The future depends on trust. Dowling’s keynote point rang true through every panel and networking session of the summit. Leaders stressed that building relationships through communication, data production and thoughtful collaboration will foster the trust necessary to navigate our complex world. Without trust, health care can’t move forward. That’s a wrap on DHNY Summit 2024! We’re grateful to every player who helped make this year’s event a success.

During DHNY Summit, leaders from Northwell Health and Mount Sinai Health System offered words of caution regarding AI, but still remain optimistic about the impacts the technology will have on healthcare delivery. Michael Dowling, president and CEO of Northwell Health, said he believes AI will create new therapies, prediction tools and diagnostics -- yet it's still important for everyone in healthcare to slow down because there is a lot of potential to do harm.
