Roblox is a game that most parents assume is one product but is?actually built?to allow millions of developers the ability to create ‘experiences’ for users. This open forum, which has experiences such as “Diddy Party” and “Epstein’s Island” is populated by millions of predators.?Roblox has started to kick off some users that are?flagarantly?going after children online, but neither the child nor the parent?are?ever notified in these situations.? ? The issue is simply back to the industry’s responsibility to shareholders.?Financially the number of users is more important to the bottom line than who those users are.?As our children innocently ask to play Roblox, a game seemingly created for this young age group, most parents believe this is akin to playing Legos or a board game with friends. What they don’t see is the constant and almost immediate barrage of hateful speech, bullying and sexual predation that occurs with some of the 80 million users that are online daily. Since tomorrow is World Mental Health Day, let's remember that psychological trauma that in the past only occured in real life is now supplemented by these digital assaults impacting the mental health of our young children. There is no time like the present to recognize that the problem is actually larger than we know, and more harmful than we have started to realize. #MentalHealth, #kids, #gaming #onlinesafety, #exploitation

Isn’t it interesting that politicians can pass legislation at a breakneck speed when it impacts them personally but we continue to struggle, claw and beg for laws that protect our children through KOSA (Kids Online Safety Act) and other bills that keep predators from exploiting our children? For reference the current outdated laws - COPPA (children’s online privacy protection act) was passed in 1998 and CIPA (children’s internet protection act) was passed in 2000. These are not protecting our kids and new legislation sitting in the house needs everyone’s support. For more than two decades - our children have been exploited and harmed - the mental health rates reflect the impact of the abuse and the extensive nature of the harms are reflected in the juvenile suicide rates. Clearly, the ability to pass legislation is attainable - when it is self serving - so why not demand this from our congressional leaders for our children and families? The time is now - our future depends on protecting our kids. #KOSA #Kids #Mentalhealth #onlinesafety #exploitation

The Third Circuit ruled that TikTok must stand trial for manipulating children into harming themselves. The business model of big tech is over. In fact Judge Paul Matey commented, “TikTok reads 230 of the Communications Decency Act to permit casual indifference to the death of a ten-year-old girl.” This doesn't mean our work it is over ... it means we have to ensure that we keep going, hold the children as our focus, and hold them to this. #parenting #socialmedia #kids #bigtech #section230 #safety #mentalhealth

Important Edit: I am still thankful to NBC News26 and Jon Erickson for covering such an important topic about kids safety online. I am also still very grateful to be a voice in this space of advocacy. What I am adding as an edit is to comment on what the youth justice social work supervisor said from Outagamie County, as she described what she believes to be child offenders that have not been victims as a new trend. The truth is that our children, on average are being exposed to Porn at the age of 8 in the US - which creates an indecent exposure incident and creates a victim of Online Sexual Exploitation. The truth is that our children are being victimized on a daily basis at the most vulnerable time with images, solicitation, and sextortions. These ARE crimes, These ARE child VICTIMS. This "trend" is a consequence of our legal system ignoring these issues and acting as though these online exploitative experiences are not real crimes.
