What does it mean to be “from Chicago”? For some, it’s about living within the city limits. For others, Chicagoland’s vast suburbs hold just as much pride and identity. The relationship between the two is layered—full of shared love, occasional rivalry, and deep cultural ties. You Don’t Know Chi is our latest Digifé project featuring historian S. Dilla Thomas. This new show, debuting on YouTube on November 29th, dives into the dynamic between the city and the suburbs. We’re breaking down what it really means to claim Chicago as home. ?? Be part of the conversation: mark your calendar for 11/29 and join us for the premiere.

My purpose, my passion, and my impact are all connected, and that’s why I feel incredibly blessed. Every day, I get to wake up and do something I love—telling stories. Whether it’s through documentaries, films, or photography, I get to capture moments, amplify voices, and share perspectives that might otherwise go unheard. That’s what keeps me going—and that’s why I’m so fortunate. Photographer: Donnie Seals Jr. Production Company: Digifé

It takes a dedicated team to tell a story the right way. Months of planning transform into weeks of production, which then evolve into months of editing. Every step is crucial, and it all starts with solid pre-production. When you get it right in pre-production, everything else begins to fall in line. It doesn’t mean things won’t change or surprises won’t happen — they always do — but having a plan is the key to navigating the unexpected and staying on course. Behind every great film is a team of creative minds working together to make the magic happen.

Meet the color chart — the simple yet powerful tool that helps us capture the best skin tones for all our interview subjects. This little chart is a game-changer, providing a consistent reference point in any environment, no matter the room or lighting conditions. By using it, we can tell the computer exactly what each color should look like, allowing us to adjust for the most accurate and beautiful hues during color correction. It’s an inexpensive tool, but it’s taken our filmmaking game up 20 notches! ?? Never underestimate the power of getting your colors right. Your footage — and your audience — will thank you!

Attending the DNC in Chicago was a memorable experience, but nothing compares to meeting one of my all-time favorite filmmakers, Ava DuVernay. To say my style is influenced by her would be an understatement. I shared with her how the first time I encountered her work was through the documentary Venus Vs. on ESPN in 2013. Initially, I was shocked because the film broke all the rules of thirds and traditional interview framing. But then I realized I couldn’t look away—I was captivated by the shot composition. The way she pushed the boundaries of storytelling through interviews, using such bold and unconventional angles, was unlike anything I’d seen before. From that moment on, every project I’ve directed or DP’d has been shaped by her influence—not just from Venus Vs., but also from 13th, and so many others. Thank you, Ava, for continuing to create inspiring work. You’ve shaped an entire generation of filmmakers.
