Since joining X9 in 2018, we’ve been instrumental in leading a PKI Study Group to identify and address the specific needs of the financial community. Our next step? Microsoft's Majorana 1 chip will accelerate the timeline to practical quantum computing. In other words: your current cryptography is getting closer to extinction. A couple reflections on the quantum computing breakthrough we just announced... Most of us grew up learning there are three main types of matter that matter: solid, liquid, and gas. Today, that changed. After a nearly 20 year pursuit, we’ve created an entirely new state of matter, unlocked by a new class of materials, topoconductors, that enable a fundamental leap in computing. It powers Majorana 1, the first quantum processing unit built on a topological core. We believe this breakthrough will allow us to create a truly meaningful quantum computer not in decades, as some have predicted, but in years. The qubits created with topoconductors are faster, more reliable, and smaller. They are 1/100th of a millimeter, meaning we now have a clear path to a million-qubit processor. Imagine a chip that can fit in the palm of your hand yet is capable of solving problems that even all the computers on Earth today combined could not! Sometimes researchers have to work on things for decades to make progress possible. It takes patience and persistence to have big impact in the world. And I am glad we get the opportunity to do just that at Microsoft. This is our focus: When productivity rises, economies grow faster, benefiting every sector and every corner of the globe. And it’s the size of a subatomic particle. “#Microsoft's recent unveiling of the Majorana 1 chip marks a significant milestone in quantum computing,” said #DigiCert VP of Industry Standards Timothy Hollebeek. “The Majorana 1 chip leverages Majorana particles to create more stable qubits, potentially accelerating the timeline to practical quantum computing. Continued advancements like this suggest that the availability of stable quantum computers could be realized within the next five years.”

Thank you Wyatt Banks for your inspiring session on how MGM Resorts International is reducing risk and eliminating outages by modernizing PKI with DigiCert. My key takeaways from our conversation: ? Unmanaged shadow certificate authorities in your environment can lead to privileged access for attackers, including domain control (e.g., legacy Microsoft CA). ? Self-signed certificates for critical services are a disaster waiting to happen when you least expect it (e.g., Sev1 on Christmas Eve). ? There are lots of vendors, but only a handful or true partners you can count on when you need them the most. We look forward to our continued partnership and being of deeper service to MGM for Digital Trust. These issues are not unique, they are pervasive in almost every organization I talk to. It’s time to upgrade to a modern SaaS platform for foundational PKI and DNS.
