We're kicking off our 5-week educational series with a focus on On-Site Compensation (OSC)—a crucial process to ensure your FARO scanner (https://hubs.ly/Q02X9Q-80) delivers precise measurements every time. What is OSC? On-site compensation (OSC) is a process that tests and improves the angular accuracy of the scanner by measuring and correcting small inconsistencies in how the scanner measures the environment. These inconsistencies are then compensated for in the scanner's software. With the Focus Premium, you can run the compensation directly from your phone using the FARO Stream app to establish the best possible accuracy When would you perform the OSC?: If possible, every project. At the end of last month a group of construction and laser scanning professional to participate in a study testing how accurate and reliable Laser scanners are in real world conditions. 13 different participants scanned a portion of one of The Conco Companies jobsites in Santa Cruz California. Each participant had to complete the course two times. This video is of the field work that happened that weekend. The DiCarlo Precision Instrument, Inc. and FARO Technologies teams joined a diverse group of 3D Laser Scanning contractors, surveyors, service providers, manufactures and researchers in an Interlaboratory Study focused on advancing the precision of concrete tolerance verification using Terrestrial Laser Scanners (TLS). This study is backed by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC), aimed to prove the bias of the TLS method against total station reference values. Over two days, in San Jose, California each team measured the geometric positions of recently poured concrete elements such as elevated slabs, vertical concrete, columns, and walls to assess precision. This study is crucial for setting new standards in concrete construction, by verifying accuracy and reliability in the field. By using advanced TLS technology, together these teams are paving the way for more efficient and precise construction practices, contributing to safer and more sustainable infrastructure.
