Diageo CEO Debra Crew and CSO Ewan Andrew had the opportunity to attend a WaterAid reception at Buckingham Palace last week. The partnership with WaterAid goes back 20 years and is key to our wider strategy to Preserve Water For Life, through collective action, water replenishment and efficiencies.? ? Investment in providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene is critical to communities, businesses and the environment. #WaterAid #BuckinghamPalace
His Majesty the King, as Patron of WaterAid UK hosted a reception last night at @BuckinghamPalace following a day of round tables across Private, Public and Youth groupings. Our CEO Debra Crew and I attended to represent Diageo who have been partnering with WaterAid for more than 20 years. Beyond showcasing the outstanding work of WaterAid, a highly respected global NGO, the reception enabled the meeting of young, highly influential people from around the world, alongside seasoned professionals who really understand the nexus of people, nature and climate. From Royals, NGO’s, ParaOlympians, Celebrities and Fashion groups, to Brewers, Distillers, Banks, Insurers and Investors I met a lot of people who impact strongly today but who passionately want to (together) accelerate, scale and drive water preservation in aid of humanitarian rights, economic prosperity and nature conservation. As Co-Chair for Diageo alongside Amy Hepburn CEO of the Investor Leadership Network, we discussed the Private sectors role in solving the Water-Climate Crisis. It’s amazing how the solution themes are simple in nature, but still complex to bring together. Consistency on measurement, value creation and regulation were the asks, with a need for more available structured mechanisms which can match easily to opportunities and provide clear economic returns are much needed. There’s will and solutions on all sides if we can bring together the needs with common delivery platforms. How can Trillions of $’s of available private and public investment money, alongside issues like the affordability of insurance premiums, come through to deliver change with real world solutions that ensure priority water basins meet the needs of a wide range of people and communities? Matching an investment fund $100M of available money to 1000’s of small and large scale impact water projects has to get easier. The work continues and leadership from outstanding leaders like @TimWainwright. WaterAid are doing exactly that. Well done WaterAid! #WaterAid #Diageo #BuckinghamPalace #TheGodivariInitiative #TheUpperTanna #CharcoBendito #OP2B #LENS

Ahead of International Women's Day, we spoke to CARE International UK and our own Amanda Smith, head of Community Impact, about their research in Tanzania that explored the impacts of climate change on women smallholder farmers. In the rural areas of the country, 98% of women engage in agriculture as an economic activity - but many lack the right skills and resources to mitigate against climate change. Leadership training, farming skills and climate-smart practices were provided, strengthening supply chains and improving community income and resilience.
CARE International UK and Diageo are working together to remove the barriers women face in their communities to farm better, access the market and take part in decision-making spaces. ? This #InternationalWomensDay, we are highlighting the impact of our partnership on smallholder farmers’ lives in Tanzania. Last year, in the Singida region of Tanzania, a pilot programme by Sightsavers, the Syngenta Foundation and CARE Tanzania with Serengeti Breweries - part of Diageo's operations in Africa - supported sorghum smallholder farmers to challenge harmful social norms and improve their linkages to the commercial sorghum supply chain. The programme had a particular focus on women farmers and farmers with disabilities. ??? Watch the video to see the impact of this work. ? You can read more about our long-term partnership in an interview with Helen McEachern, CARE International UK CEO, and Amanda Smith, Head of Community Impact at Diageo: https://lnkd.in/etA7J9QY

Dayalan Nayager, President of Diageo Africa since July 2022, will become President of Diageo Europe, taking over from John Kennedy. Dayalan will retain his Diageo-wide responsibilities as Chief Commercial Officer.?Over the last 12 years, Dayalan has led several Diageo businesses in Europe, including Great Britain, Ireland and France, and also ran Diageo’s Global Travel retail business. We want to express our thanks to John Kennedy for his strong stewardship of the Europe business on an interim basis since January 2024.
