The recognitions we've received validates not just our innovation, but the critical need we're addressing in healthcare. On Friday, I stepped onto the stage at Syracuse University - Martin J. Whitman School of Management Lender Hall, ready to pitch DiabeTech in a Shark Tank-style competition. Armed with nerves and a dream, I thought, Alright, time to see if I can sell my vision as well as I can sell myself on a Monday morning. I wasn’t there to obsess over winning that kind of pressure would only throw me off. My plan was simple: go up there, be authentic, and share what DiabeTech is all about. Despite weeks of preparation with Linda Dickerson Hartsock, late-night emails, and pacing tips from Eric M Alderman, the nerves crept in. This journey isn’t just about business for me; it’s a mission inspired by my father’s fight against diabetes. In a last-minute polish at the Launch Pad, Traci Geisler and Jonathan Wess helped me fine tune the final details. I’d prepped a thick 30-page Q&A and spent hours at the Showcase before racing to Orange Tank, only to discover I was going first. "Ladies first" might sound nice, but at that moment, it felt like sweaty palms and a pounding heart. When my name was called, I gave everything I had, hoping to connect with the judges and spark their belief in our vision. I wanted to find a familiar face in the crowd, to lock eyes with Indaria Jones and draw from her steady reassurance, but the hall was dark. I remembered her advice, though: It’s okay to admit when you don’t know an answer. That reminder grounded me. Hearing DiabeTech called as a winner felt surreal, and I was filled with gratitude for everyone who supported me especially my dad. Amid the excitement, I also won the Launch Pad competition! Fueled by caffeine and juggling multiple events, I finally enjoyed breakfast at 7 p.m. The joy of sharing my vision made it all worth it. To all founders: we’ll lose some, but we’ll win most cheers to more wins! And to anyone starting out, keep believing in your dream, even if others don’t.
