16 years ago this month, Carl Douglass, P.E. took a leap of faith — leaving Ohio for an opportunity in Minnesota as Director of Engineering at Prinsco. In this clip from Solutionology Stories Podcast Episode 26, Jamie Duininck shares a memorable story from Carl’s very first visit to Prinsco’s Willmar office — during a classic Minnesota March snowstorm. After watching Carl walk back to his car, Jamie was convinced: This guy is never moving to Minnesota! Then Jamie adds: "Not only did you move, but you decided to stay in rural Minnesota, and your entire family moved this way, and now you're appreciated in this community. You're bringing good things both personally and professionally by adding jobs and creating a tax base and all kinds of things. It's really rewarding to have had my little part in that - that I brought you here for a job and you guys (Carl, Brian & Sean Douglass) did the rest (starting DI Labs)." This month's Solutionology Story: A Distributed Manufacturing Response Led by Stratasys Direct In October 2024, a major hurricane struck the U.S., leaving destruction in its wake—including the disruption of a critical injection molding supply chain for a top automotive manufacturer. With production at a standstill and losses mounting by the hour, the company turned to Stratasys Direct, one of the world’s largest additive manufacturing service providers, for a solution. Justin "Bud" Runquist, VP of Sales and Marketing at Stratasys Direct, led the charge in mobilizing an emergency manufacturing response. They quickly recognized that meeting the demand—500 parts per day, with the first shipment needed within seven days—required a network approach and reached out to trusted partners, including DI Labs, to expand capacity. The response from the additive manufacturing community was overwhelmingly positive. Manufacturers across the industry stepped in, demonstrating the power of distributed manufacturing: a collaborative, decentralized approach that allows for rapid scaling.
