In honor of Thanksgiving, we're reflecting on the roots of the holiday and our connection to its history. In 2022, our cutting-edge surveying technology helped bridge the gap between modern innovation and American history. The DGT team assisted in creating a replica of Plymouth Rock, paying tribute to the historic Mayflower voyage. We conducted detailed 3D scans of the original rock, which were used to craft a bronze sculpture, formally unveiled this year in Scrooby, England. ?? While geological conditions are often a factor, in historic cities like Boston, life-threatening hazards, such as sinkholes, major surface depressions, and underground voids, often trace back to abandoned underground structures that were used to deliver and store coal over a century ago. Today, some of these coal holes are still visible on the city’s older sidewalks, marked by distinctive small metal covers or glass panels. However, many others are unmarked and unknown. These hidden underground cavities can create serious complications for designers and construction teams, including obstructed design plans and dangerous situations where heavy trucks crash through sidewalks that aren’t built to support their weight. ?? Massachusetts is cracking down on #stormwaterpollution. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Agency recently proposed an initiative that aims to significantly reduce pollution entering Boston-area rivers. The regulations would require commercial properties with pavement and roof areas exceeding one acre to limit de-icing salt and fertilizer, improve trash management, and install rain gardens or infiltration systems. The new rule would affect approximately 3,500 businesses, industrial sites, and universities along the Charles, Mystic, and Neponset River watersheds. Under the Transmission Facilitation Program, the federal government has?invested billions?of dollars in funding to harness more affordable, clean energy by improving grid reliability and resilience. In a recent report, the Dept. of Energy announced four “construction-ready” transmission line projects that will add nearly 1,000 miles of transmission development in Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. ?
