The European football leagues association European Leagues has made important changes in terms of personnel and content at its 50th general assembly in Frankfurt am Main. At the General Assembly, a new Board of Directors was elected for a term of four years. #DFL CEO Marc Lenz was unanimously confirmed in office. The committee consists of 13 members and is responsible for the strategic direction of the association. Marc Lenz has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2022 and represents the European Leagues – including the top 5 leagues – in the UEFA Club Licensing Committee, which is responsible for the European club licensing and financial regulations. The European Leagues has also elected a new president: Claudius Sch?fer I CEO and Board Member (Swiss Football League/Switzerland) will succeed Pedro Proen?a (Liga Portugal/Portugal). Mathieu Moreuil from the English Premier League was elected vice-president. After six years, the previous managing director Jacco Swart was bid farewell. In addition, the decision was taken to readmit LaLiga from Spain to the European Leagues, so that the top five leagues are again all represented. The European Leagues – the Association of European Professional Football Leagues?– is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and invited its members for a special 50th General Assembly to Frankfurt on 5-6 March. Hosted by the #DFL, it brings together representatives from all 40 member leagues, alongside executives from major football stakeholders. ? Ahead of tomorrow’s General Assembly, which marks the start of the next four-year cycle (2025-2029) and will see the appointment of a new president as well as a newly composed Board of Directors, a full seminar day took place at the DFB campus. ? The seminar day included several breakout sessions - covering topics such as business, competition and governance - some of which were led by DFL representatives.?Bastian Thomas explained DFL's idea and concept of the “Stadium Alliances” dialogue format, which helps to improve the security collaboration between clubs and authorties such as the local police. ? Birger J. Nass shared insights on the “Stadium Innovations” project, a joint initiative of the DFL and the DFB. It enables the participating clubs to gain knowledge about the benefits and usefulness of new innovative products and to exchange experiences with each other. ? Oliver Pribramsky put a spotlight on the evolving complexity of the challenges to broadcast rights from digital piracy and the measures that the Sports Rights Owners Coalition (SROC) is pursuing to deliver effective legal enforcement against online theft. His workshop also discussed other main threats to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) underlying the monetization of sports, including attempts to abolish geo-blocking within the EU and the future challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence (AI). ?? In the keynote dialogue, he discussed financial aspects of European club football together with Fernando Carro de Prada, CEO of Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and FT Sports Editor Josh Noble. Within the discussion it was illustrated that the #Bundesliga is sportingly and financially well positioned in European football. Nonetheless, challenges must be addressed, such as necessary investments in long-term structures as well as moving European football to financial sustainability. Because, despite a continuous revenue increase, many European clubs are deficient and dependent on capital contributions. In the interest of many stakeholders - for example financially sustainable leagues and clubs - it is decisive to regulate cost levels sufficiently in order to ensure European football breaks even. In?addition,?Mr?Lenz and?Mr?Carro?talked?about the effectiveness of current regulations,?investment levels and further challenges?in?a?global football context.

The collaboration continues ????? Today, the #DFL and #Vietnam Football Federation officially extended their partnership, signing a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ensure the partnership is extended until 2028. The main objective of the MoU builds on the work done between the two football organisations in recent years, with the goal of strengthening the position of football in Vietnam. Central to this is the Bundesliga Dream?project, which is aimed at enhancing the quality of Vietnam’s national youth teams, in order to achieve even more success on the international stage. In addition, the DFL and its clubs will also continue to support the VFF and the wider Vietnamese footballing ecosystem with knowledge exchanges in the fields of coaching and medical, as well as incorporating the growth of women’s football in Vietnam. In March 2022, the?two organisations signed an original MoU, and in recent years the DFL and Bundesliga clubs have been very active in Vietnam, with activations that include joint training camps and the hosting of national teams, friendly matches, and the establishment of the Vietnam Incubator Project, which evolved to become Bundesliga Dream. Bundesliga International Managing Director and DFL Chief Marketing Officer Peer Niclas Naubert said: "For the DFL, internationalisation does not just mean the distribution of media rights. Our approach is to maintain strong relationships with leagues and associations around the globe – exchanging know how as well as ideas and working together to better understand what football means to fans in those countries.
