The self-governing funding organization for research in Germany. Fostering science diplomacy in N. America and Germany.
关于我们
The German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, or DFG) is comparable to the National Science Foundation in the US, but supports research in all branches of science, engineering, and the humanities by funding research projects at German universities and other research institutions. One of the DFG's principle goals is to foster the internationalization of German research. Our offices abroad help to carry out this mandate. The DFG maintains offices in Beijing, New Delhi, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, and in Washington DC/New York City/San Francisco. More than half of all DFG-funded research fellows choose North America (the US and Canada) for their postdoctoral training. DFG North America has three locations: - In Washington D.C., the DFG maintains close ties with North American funding organizations, facilitates transatlantic research projects, and monitors science policy dialogue. - In New York, the focus is on marketing Germany as an internationally competitive research location, an effort conducted jointly with German partner organizations such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), and in collaboration with the liaison offices of German universities in North America. - San Francisco is home to some of North America's most prestigious universities as well as renowned IT and high-tech companies with strong research capabilities; the focus there is on building new networks, organizing events, and monitoring transfer processes in the region. DFG North America facilitates contact between scientists and researchers in Germany and North America. It supports early-career researchers here on a DFG fellowship with networking events like GAIN, and organizes outreach activities to showcase German research regionally. ?? See for yourself – the new online, English language edition of the DFG magazine “german research” ?? It introduces projects, people and perspectives of #DFG-funded basic research and selects topics and news from “forschung” (the German-language edition) and the DFG funding world. As always, the new issue gives the floor to DFG President Katja Becker; in this issue's editorial, “A Question of Balance” on the tension between academic freedom and research security. “Research” also features author contributions by DFG-funded researchers and pieces on significant DFG events: ? The cover story “Pristine Wilderness and Vital Habitat” describes how biologists and social scientists are jointly investigating a socio-ecological living system on Kilimanjaro ? A cultural studies contribution shows what the major and minor literary prizes in this country reveal about social values and cultural self-understanding in transition. ? A look at the Washington D.C. Roundtable in late August on research security and the new SECURE center in the US, attended by leaders of the German and US research communities.
