Beyond its renowned use in textiles, indigo has played a significant role in scientific applications such as histology, where it continues to be used in medical staining techniques. However, its cultural legacy also includes a lesser-known history—indigo cultivation in Louisiana was closely tied to the enslavement of Indigenous peoples, particularly Native American tribes, who were forced to harvest and process the valuable dye.
