Last month, CHANEL CEO Leena Nair met with Develop for Good founder Mary Zhu to discuss our mission to bridge the digital divide for underrepresented college students. As the first and only woman of color to lead a luxury major brand, Leena resonated deeply with the ~1,700 female college students and counting Develop for Good has supported on real-world software projects for nonprofits. Our greatest thanks goes to the CHANEL Open Innovation team Gregory Baratte Waidlich, Danielle Zhu, Kristijana St. Clair, Giselle Graham, and Maxine Smith and the StartX team Tota Zoura, Darsh Singh Mann, and Kyle Wong for forging this special connection. Develop for Good is excited to continue empowering women and girls around the world by fostering their tech superpowers for impact ????

This summer, we collaborated with Bloomberg's Corporate Philanthropy and Engineering Recruiting teams to help pilot the Best Of Bloomberg (BOB) Hacks volunteer program ?? During this 7-week program, 21 Bloomberg college interns and 8 mentors from Bloomberg's Engineering department applied design-thinking to develop technology solutions for nonprofits. This included gathering stakeholder requirements, prototyping solutions in a 12-hour hackathon, and pitching their proposals to our nonprofit partners. Together with them, Develop for Good will be exploring the further development of the tech projects proposed by Bloomberg interns. Many thanks to our friends at Bloomberg - Kristie Ramdeo, Morgan Quercia, Lumilla Laporte, Vanessa Luna, Malia Simonds, and Darlene Escobar - for the opportunity to support bringing this initiative to life. Big shoutout to CHANGE Arts' Executive Director Matt Freeman and South Bronx United's Executive Director Andrew So for their collaboration as our key nonprofit partners. #ImpactInAction

Nearly 200 corporate mentor volunteers and college students joined our Summer '24 Demo Day sponsored by Bloomberg, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and EY! ?? Our Demo Day Mentors were blown away by the real-world software products our 430+ diverse college students and industry mentors built this summer for innovative nonprofits like Ashoka, empowr., and BobaTalks. Here were some of our Demo Day Mentors’ thoughts after mock interviewing our students: “It was inspiring to meet the students. The level of collaboration and their presentation skills were very impressive. They were able to accomplish so much in 16 weeks and then clearly articulate their challenge and how they addressed it with prototypes and user testing - incredible. I'm in awe of how they managed a project amongst 8 people who had no previous experience working with each other. Such a meaningful volunteer experience for me.” “I just wanted to extend my thanks to you and your team for connecting us with brilliant students from around the world and having the opportunity to hear their innovative ideas. I was super impressed with the work that went into these presentations and all of the research that the students conducted to really make a special product…I came away from the event feeling super fulfilled.” “I’m rethinking my life.” Tremendous thank you to: - Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Malia Simonds, Vanessa Luna, and Darlene Escobar - Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s Melissa Abbett, Fred Tan, and Jennifer Gortárez - EY’s Avion Bell and Jennifer Williams for recruiting such energetic and passionate corporate mentors to culminate our students’ 4-month nonprofit projects at Develop for Good with ??
