Detroit’s art scene is thriving, and Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC) is ensuring artists with developmental disabilities and mental health differences are part of the conversation. Founded by Anthony Marcellini as a program of Services to Enhance Potential (STEP), PASC provides studio space, mentorship, and exhibition opportunities across Detroit, Westland, and Southgate. PASC artists have exhibited at Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit and Cranbrook Art Museum and will be featured in The Sea and the Sky, and You and I at The Shepherd, curated by Allison G. Their new Lantern Building location in East Village, supported by Library Street Collective founders Anthony and JJ Curis, expands their reach. "Right now, we’re working to refine demand models, analyze cost structures, and optimize the environmental impact. If we get this right, drone freight could become a core component of Michigan’s advanced logistics infrastructure." – Christopher Girdwood, CEO of Detroit Region Aerotropolis The #DetroitRegionAerotropolis is a public-private economic development partnership with the Wayne County Airport Authority. One of its key areas of focus is exploring #sustainablefreight solutions, including the use of drones to transport lightweight cargo, reducing emissions, road congestion, and overall wear on transportation networks. We spoke with Girdwood to discuss how drone technology is reshaping logistics, the environmental and economic impact of freight inefficiencies, and the future of cargo transport in #SoutheastMichigan. Detroit’s art scene is constantly evolving, and Ash Arder is a name to watch in 2025. As a transdisciplinary artist, Arder’s work blends research, ecology, and industry to challenge and reshape physical and conceptual systems. Featured in our recent article – “Detroit’s Rising Artists: The Ones to Watch in 2025” – Arder’s work reflects the city’s DIY spirit and deep creativity. ??: Pictured featured Work: “Shine A Light” (2018) This collaboration with architect Aaron Jones, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and local community organizations created a solar-powered greenhouse & projection hub. By day, it’s a greenhouse; by night, it transforms into a space for film screenings. The permanent solar array not only powers the structure but also serves as a community charging station during grid failures, filling gaps in civic infrastructure where it’s needed most. ?? The Hudson’s Site Tower stands at 685.4 feet, making it the second-tallest building in Detroit. The installation of glass panels at the highest point marks a significant step toward completion. The development includes retail, dining, residential units, and a hotel in downtown Detroit. General Motors has announced plans to relocate its global headquarters to the Hudson’s Site this year. What started as a vision to heal and rebuild has become one of Detroit’s most inspiring grassroots projects. The Avalon Village, founded by Shamayim “Mama Shu” Harris, is transforming Highland Park into a safe, sustainable, and thriving neighborhood. After losing her young son, Jakobi RA, to a hit-and-run in 2007, Mama Shu turned her pain into purpose, turning blight into beauty and creating opportunities for the community. Now spanning 45 lots across three blocks, Avalon Village features: ?? The Homework House – A solar-powered after-school center ?? The Healing House – A space for holistic wellness ?????? The Goddess Marketplace – Supporting women entrepreneurs ?? A community farm with fresh produce & eggs ?? The “My Three Sons” Basketball Court, honoring her late sons And she’s not stopping – with plans for affordable housing, a healthy restaurant, and workshops to help others revitalize their communities.
