关于我们
Detroit Heals Detroit exists to foster healing justice for Detroit youth in which they are able to transform their pain into power. With a goal to combat trauma, we use healing centered engagement to share our greatest vulnerabilities with the rest of the world while simultaneously working to dismantle oppressive systems for marginalized Detroit youth. Our organization was created by Detroit youth for Detroit youth, between the ages of 12-21, who have been walking and developing in a world that has sought to silence their pain. Exposure to trauma has a profound impact on cognitive development and academic outcomes and our specific students in Detroit seem to wake up to trauma like its breakfast. We understand that Detroit youth face more challenges than any individual person can remedy so our goal is to help each other heal from the trauma together. We need a voice and access to share our greatest vulnerabilities with the rest of the world, truly giving our trauma a purpose. We will lead community healing and learn strategies to advocate for ourselves and others, to deepen our own and others knowledge, & to illuminate the lives we live and the worlds we are a part of. Speaking, writing and advocating around your trauma is an important and powerful step to healing. When the youth in neighborhoods heal, the community begins to heal. Healing is very much rooted in community and we are committed to leading the movement toward Healing Justice for Detroit Youth and Beyond.

Destination Liberation Testimony Videos ?? Meet Christine ? The Destination Liberation Program was developed to bring radical healing to formerly incarcerated Detroit youth by utilizing travel, life skills and youth organizing as a form of resistance in order to reach liberation. No nation has locked up more of its own people per capita than the US. In this 12-week program we were able to give these young people their purpose and power back that society otherwise would have tried to take away from them, indefinitely. Giving them a piece of their power back that essentially undercuts the likelihood of recidivism. At the end of the program, we took a culminating trip to Puerto Rico to continue our teachings, heal and imagine new possibilities. This is the Impact! ???? Special thank you to @skillmanfoundation & The Michigan Justice Fund for being our Partners on this initiative ??????

Destination Liberation Thursdays Recap. We played “The Game of Life” simulation with participants to teach them personal finance. This simulation did not disappoint. First station they had to go through interviews to get hired in somewhere, some got hired and some didn’t. Then once hired, folks got their first paystubs and then went on to find housing which some participants was smart and linked up as roommates to save money on rent. At random, participants would be given “life cards” to showcase the random life hurdles they’ll have to overcome and budget for like car breaking down or rent increase. Then they went on to next station which was transportation. Some opted for the Audi while others just said all I can afford right now is a bus pass. Simulation actors took their jobs seriously…”how you gon finance this Audi and you don’t got a credit score?” Then last station was food and groceries. Baby this activity was gold and the engagement was so high. ?? Like everyone was so engaged and learned alot. Society may see formerly incarcerated people when they look at this group but we see family, we see potential, we see greatness. To our D. Lib family who read this…We love y’all & got yall backs forever ??????????
